Matt is starting over.
Matt Landon is moving from New York to Silo to start over. After escaping an abusive relationship, his only thought is a quiet place to heal. His scars run deep and all he wants is a chance to regroup and privately lick his wounds as he takes time to put his life back together.
Silo isn’t like New York. People know your name in Silo. People care. And most of all, they support each other as Matt quickly finds out when he begins to make friends through his ex-turned-best friend Peyton, and his family. Friends who will help in any way they can, which include being introduced to the local sheriff’s department personally.
No one could have prepared him for one sheriff in particular, Dave Hanlon.
Dave never thought much about meeting his mate. He knew he was borderline asexual and was okay with that, not that concerned with labels. He had the pride of his job, his friends, and his pack. He’d never longed for more. Meeting Matt only enforces that belief. His wolf senses his mate, but Dave doesn’t feel a thing for the shy, sweet man.
Time together brings a new understanding for Dave, and perhaps a chance to get to know the blond who captured his wolf’s interest. But the unwelcome attention of a stalker makes Matt’s life a living hell all over again.
Will Dave and Matt be able to explore the new sides of themselves they are finding with each other, or will the stalker have the final say, ripping apart a fragile beginning?
REVIEW:
Note: This is the 6th book in this series and it contains major spoilers for the previous books. I can be read as a standalone, but I would recommend reading at least Book 4, Where Trouble Travels first.
Matt Landon has suffered terribly at the hands of his ex. After a pretty high profile case, he’s left New York behind him and moved to rural Silo, many states away, to recover and regroup. His ex, Peyton, has forgiven him and gives him a place to stay and a group of supportive friends. He likes Silo, even though it’s not what he’s used to. He finds a place that he feels comfortable though. And as his recover progresses, he finds a job and gets more involved with the town. He finds a sense of purpose. And maybe a new man.
Dave Hanlon, Silo Sheriff, has never felt much for anyone he’s dated. he’s happy on his own. He figures he’s not meant to spend his life with anyone and he’s OK with that. Until he meets Matt. He’s drawn to the man and so is his wolf. As much as he’d like to resist, he feels an overwhelming sense of protectiveness towards Matt. He know some of what has happened to Matt, but not all. But he knows he’s found his mate – as reluctant as he is to admit it.
Dave and Matt end up working together on a town project, the Fall Festival. Things are going slowly in their relationship – just as much as Matt needs it to. And then he starts getting threatening messages. He assumes it’s his ex, but is it? Dave and the rest of his friends are determined the help him and keep him save, but Matt is definitely scared. He does feel safe with Dave and he knows he needs help. Luckily there are a lot of folks who want to help him 🙂
I really enjoyed this story! It’s been a while since I visited Silo and it was a lot of fun catching up with the previous couples. I really felt for Matt! What a horrible ordeal he’s been through. Dave was such a nice guy. I loved how honest he was with Matt about his sexuality and never having really felt for anyone how he feels for Matt. The mystery was a good one too – nothing obvious. Then there is Dave’s big reveal to Matt of his true nature. Really such an enjoyable story. Definitely recommended especially for fans of shifters, hurt/comfort and second chances. So happy to have more in this series.
