Heartbroken? Check. Unemployed? Check. Homeless? Check. Self-medicating? As often as possible.
My life was upended with a two-word text, and a meeting with my boss’s boss nearly finished me off. I fell into a downward spiral with no intention of pulling out, but my brother, Hank, had other ideas. He called in a big gun, Gabriele Torrente, who dragged me to New York and pushed me to get myself together.
At a family event, I hooked up with the hottest guy I’d ever met, intending to relieve some tension, but he turned out to be more than I imagined. He was sassy, opinionated, and he completely set me on my ear. Maxim Partee wouldn’t put up with my crap, but after I made a huge mistake, he still agreed to be my friend, which was precisely what I needed. I couldn’t envision he might need me in return.

Sexy? Check. Successful? Check. Lonely? Very much so. Power bottom? You bet your…bottom.
I had a successful business…two of them as a matter of fact. I had friends I cherished, and I loved my life, telling myself it would be more than enough for me. I chose the men I spent time with, and it was always on my terms. An unfortunate hook-up at a birthday party led me down a path I didn’t expect, but I met a nice, misguided man from whom I couldn’t easily walk away.
The journey he needed to traverse might leave me alone, but I supported his need to do it. Where would it leave me? No idea.
Please Note: This book contains material which may be offensive to some readers. It includes graphic language, violence, adult situations, and descriptions of sexual activity between two, consenting adult males. This fictional story is intended for adults over 18 and is approximately 86,000 words in length. It is the fourth book in “The Lonely Heroes Series,” but it can be read as a stand-alone book. I hope you enjoy it.
REVIEW:
I have been waiting for this book every since Hank and Reed’s story. Wow! I guess I wasn’t as prepared for Lawry’s story as I thought but just Wow!
Lawry’s life went completely into a total upheaval when his boss informs him that his lover has not only gone dark on a mission but has chosen to commit suicide…the act of complete selfishness and betrayal. Now his life consists of drinking and chasing the next drug to make him numb for the last two years! His brother Hank calls out the big guns by calling in a favor with his Ranger Brother Gabby Torrente. Gabby is taking Lawry back to stay with him and Dex so he can get Lawry clean, sober and working. But can Lawry ever bounce back from Julie’s ultimate betrayal?
I have loved getting to finally know and understand Hank’s brother. We saw the one side of him in Hank’s story but poor Lawry’s story was so dark. Thank goodness he never thought to check that their revolver was empty that dark night. He was completely devastated by the news of Julie’s death. But watching Maxi get hold of him and teach him the real in and outs of being gay instead of the twisted way Julie taught and used him. That was a true treat. Don’t get me started with how evil Julie was. For that matter the entire CIA! What I didn’t get was what happened to all those kids that were kidnapped? I’m hoping we find out but I felt like a huge hole was left gaping in that part of the story!
Maxi is the friend everyone needs. He’s sweet yet feisty. And he is a true blue loyal friend through good times and the tough ones too. Lawry couldn’t have wound up with a better partner. He needed someone as loving and strong as Maxi after the hell Julie put him through.
I am totally loving this series and can’t recommend it enough. I do suggest that you read the books in order so you don’t miss a delicious moment of these amazing heroes. The only reason I took a ½ star off was the missing children part not being resolved.
