They’re fated even though they can’t stand each other.
Blurb
Dekker Baines decides he wants to start a family, but he doesn’t have an alpha, so he goes to one of Pine Wood Falls get-togethers. It’s where you go if you need someone to mate with, but his evening goes sideways when a few alphas don’t take no for an answer.
Ryder Remington is Dekk’s business partner, and when he gets a call that Dekk is in trouble, he runs to his rescue and comes across a scene that makes his blood boil. A month after the attack, when Dekk goes into heat again, Ryder tells him he’ll be the father of his children. Dekk is reluctant at first but can’t fight his urge to be with child.
Now they’re starting a family, but the thing is, they can’t stand each other. They are as mismatched as two people can get. Together they have to navigate recovering from trauma, try to tolerate living with each other, and get ready for quintuplets. If they can manage all of that, they might get their happy ending, but things never go according to plan.
“YOU’RE WHAT?” I WAS STUNNED BY WHAT HE TOLD ME. Dekk and I had been business partners for about half a year now, and him talking about going to a get-together, giving himself away like that, seemed out of character. He was a prissy, head-strong person with his life in order. What he suggested didn’t fit his profile, and I didn’t like it.
He crossed his arms over his thin chest. “Now you sound like Daddy. I’m going to a get-together, and I’m going to get pregnant.”
I laughed and shook my head. “I still can’t believe you call your one dad daddy still.”
“Jesus.” He shot beams of rage from his eyes.
“What?” Because seriously, he was an adult.
He scrunched up his nose. “You’re like an uber alpha.”
“Am not. You’re like a child.”
“Plenty of people call their dad’s daddy.”
“Yeah, five-year-olds.”
“I’m going to let my kids call me daddy as long as they’d like.”
“You have to have some kids first,” I said over my shoulder, stacking up some glasses. It was a few minutes before opening.
“That’s my plan. I’m going out Friday night.”
“So, you’re going to hook up with some horny stranger?”
He glanced up from his laptop. He was working on the schedule for the following week. Besides Dekk and me, we also employed Jack, Vic, and Arnault, and if business kept going well, we hoped to hire some more people soon. “That’s my plan.”
“Is that wise?” I asked.
“Why isn’t it? That’s what happens at these things.”
“You’d just go sleep with someone like that?” He was my business partner and annoying as hell, but I did have a soft spot for him. He was a good person, and if he was going to mate with someone, it should be someone who appreciates him.
“Yes, one, because I can. Two, I will be very horny, and that’s what they’re all there for. To some alpha, I’m a stranger, so it’s the same thing for me as it is for them. I don’t like what you’re implying.” He snapped his laptop shut and glared at me.
“It’s true, though. Throwing yourself around like that for whoever wants some.” He was better than that. Sure, hooking up on occasion was okay, but he was an omega in heat, so it was different. Being out in public while in heat would beckon alphas to come to him, use him.
“Think what you will, but I will be there giving it away.”
“Don’t you want it to be someone you know?”
“But I don’t know anybody who’s like, ‘Hey Dekk, let’s have babies.’” He stood up, tucking his laptop to his side under his arm.
“What about me?” I asked. At least I wasn’t a stranger who’d fuck him and leave him.
His eyes widened, and he drew back his head. “What about you?”
“Have my babies.”
“You’re so funny. Why do you have to be so mean? I’m being serious here, and you’re making a joke about it.”
“I’m very serious. You know me. I think you’d be receptive to me.” I never wanted to admit it, but I think part of the reason I was drawn to him as my business partner was because I felt something when we first met, a pull. I took it as we’d work well together, but lately, it had become to feel like something more.
“Please, Ryder. We can barely stand each other, like you’d want me to have your babies.”
I shrugged. “Just throwing it out there.”
“I’ll take my chances with a stranger.”
