BLURB:
Returning to their pack was always going to be dangerous, but is the fight for freedom worth the cost?
Cole and Logan return to London, ready to execute their plan of connecting with the human resistance. But with both of them blamed for the deaths resulting from Cole’s escape attempt, they receive a less than warm welcome from the McKillan pack.
Cole gets a second chance, but it’s not without restrictions, and he must toe the line and do whatever it takes to fit in. But earning the trust of his alpha and fellow shifters comes at a price.
For Logan, being close to Cole and unable to touch him is a daily torment, but watching from the sidelines while Cole learns what it means to be a McKillan enforcer is pushing him to his limits.
Both men must play their parts to perfection if they want Cole to be accepted into the pack, and that means doing what’s asked of them, no matter the cost.
REVIEW:
Note: this is book 2 in this series and it does not work as a standalone. You need to read this series in order.
Cole, Logan and Aaron return to London after agreeing to a plan to try to infiltrate the HRU (Human Reconnaissance Unit) to undermine the current system. Cole is a badly wanted asset by Michael and the McKillan pack, but there are a LOT of hard feelings about his escape, deaths of other unit members and his being bitten by someone other than his pack leader. Needless to say, things will not go easy for these three. They are greeted with skepticism, anger and sometimes outright hatred by the other pack members – particularly other members of the HRU – the Unit Cole is slated to join. But all three have to keep up appearances, or they risk prison or death.
Their second chance is not going to be easy or fun. The only saving grace is that they are sort of doing it together – although that is it’s own special brand of torture, since they have to act like they don’t like each other and are angry about the situation they find themselves in. They are both stronger than they ever thought they could be – which is good because the challenges in front of them are pretty steep.
Oh man! I loved the first book of this series. I have been waiting – somewhat impatiently 😉 for the second book. I can now report that it was well worth the wait! I first read this author’s Regent’s Park Pack series a few years ago and I really liked the universe she created and the writing. This series, however takes a shifter world to a whole other level – with the wolves being in control and forcing the humans to submit or else. With Cole being turned to save his life, things have been rough for him and Logan and their need to bond is just below the surface and something they have to control at all times if they want to achieve their goals. The longing for each other is palpable in this one. The plot twists were off the carts! The supporting characters of Aaron, Logan’s best friend, Jacob, their “leader” and Nick, Cole’s best friend infuse the story with even more drama. The author’s world is a study in the oppression of those who have power over those who do not. And the parallels to today’s world – I think particularly in the US can’t be ignored. For those on the side of the privileged, it’s far to easy to ignore the plight of the oppressed. I absolutely cannot WAIT for the next book.
