How did the worst date of his life turn in to the man of his dreams?
Carter Winter’s not sure there’s anything worse than watching the man he’s on a date with slip his number to the bartender… except maybe finding out six months later that his bad date is his new boss who doesn’t seem to remember Carter or that night. He wants to run, but he also knows he can’t pass up this opportunity. After all, it’s been his dream to work at London Enterprise, and he can’t turn it down now, even if it means working as a PA for Rhys London.
Fortunately, Rhys seems like an entirely different man. And while Carter doesn’t want to trust him, that isn’t easy when Rhys makes him want to believe in second chances. Carter’s been burned before, but being graced with one of the man’s rare smiles, Carter finds himself absolutely helpless against the racing beat of his heart.
Rhys London has never been a man of feeling. Spending most of his life running his company and cleaning up after his destructive brother, he hasn’t had time for things like love.
Until his business partner hired Carter Winter—a bright, beautiful man who makes Rhys want to feel.
And while Rhys is used to losing out and shutting off his heart, something about Carter makes him want to reach for the unreachable. After all, Carter is the first person he’s ever met that makes him believe in love, without a single doubt.
Without A Doubt is the first book in a romantic, light-hearted, small town trilogy. It contains no cheating, and a happily ever after.
REVIEW:
I so glad I got a chance to read and review this book!
Carter Winter has had it rough his entire life! If it wasn’t for his best friend Gabriel he would have never made it this far. His parents thought that they were doing what was best for him having cochlear implants (CI) put in his head as a baby and sheltering him from the non-hearing world. Thankfully Gabriel guided him to sign language in college.
When Carter’s love life crashes Gabriel convinced him a hook-up on Grindr is the obvious solution. When his gorgeous “date” shows up in a Jaguar and whisks him away for dinner it becomes so much more in the secluded parking structure. All is going great until the man knocks off his CI in the aftermath of their tryst. Carter admits he’s deaf and then mouth reads his date calling him a major slur when he returns from the restroom and runs off.
Six months later he finally lands his chance at London Enterprises as a PA to the CEO. He hopes this will be the stepping stone to a bright future with the company. That all shatters when his new boss turns out to be no other than Rhys London, the jerk from his horrendous hookup. When Rhys chases him down and helps him with a severe case of Vertigo he believes that he just doesn’t remember him and he is willing to give this kind man a second chance. But can he really overcome the way he was treated before?
Carter and Rhys was such a sweet mistaken identity book that highlighted the challenges of a deaf man in a hearing society. I didn’t understand how loud noises worked against CI’s. And how sudden things like elevators could set off vertigo. I loved that Rhys had taken sign language as his second/foreign language in college. My own son chose it for his second language in high school.
And I loved how Carter thawed Rhys frozen heart with his sweet and caring nature. How could have Rhys not have fallen for him. And, had Henrik not been madly in love with his very pregnant wife and two daughters, I think he would have jumped for Carter too. I mean he kept referring to him as his platonic soul mate!
One of the things I didn’t love was Carter never brought up their “date” when things got heated and he stormed out. He stated he has a temper too and that seems like something that would have flown out of his mouth in a moment of hurt and rage. I also was stunned with the abrupt ending. I know the story of what Rhys, Henrik and now Carter were fighting for continues with the next book but I fear that we won’t see Carter and Rhys much since it alludes to West and Jake, whom I am guessing is Henrik’s good looking (according to Rhys) younger brother Jakob. And, even though I know Rhys and Carter are forever I would have liked to have had a little more now that it was all figured out with their hearts. Also, if a man has a MBA and is an accountant I have a hard time believing believing he is applying as the PA for the CEO of a company…even if it is suppose to be a stepping stone in to the company.
I really did love this book and it’s going to seem like a long wait to get the next book but I’m waiting with bated breath! I can’t wait to cheer on Team London to take down LPM!!!
