I’m a little late posting this month, but still on the right date, thanks to time zones. If I’ve figured those out wrong, sorry about that. I’m usually way more onto this.
With another hetic month, full of juggling real life and writing, I keep reminding myself that writing, just as life, is a marathon, not a sprint. I’ve tried setting my alarm early before work to write, but had to move it back half an hour, or I get too tired by the end of the day. Starting my writing day at 7 when I don’t finish work till 6.30 or 8.30 at night, then having to do at least an hour’s work on here when I get home, doesn’t bode well for my energy levels. Neither does having two early day shifts at each end of my day job working week with three evenings inbetween.
It’s taken me a while to come to terms that I get less done than others—comparisonitis has always been a thorn in my side—and I constantly need to remind myself that if I want to be here for the duration, I have to pace myself. Getting too tired and burnt out won’t get books written, edited, and published. I’m not in a situation where monthly or even two monthly publishing is going to happen, even with the repubs, especially as the books I’m working on now are older so I want to rejig, and in some cases add new material etc. Working full time, and not having a partner to share the real life load are two things that are also a huge impact on my energy levels and time.
The Creative Penn is one of my go to regular podcasts. I love all the information in those, and how down to earth and practical Joanna is. The interview I listened to this week talked about enjoying the writing and the process, and doing what works for you. Perfect timing for that ongoing comparisionitis reminder! You can find that episode of the podcast here.
At present I’m doing my final read through of Comes a Horseman, book 3 of my Echoes Rising series, so aiming to publish that very soon. The paperback for Family and Reflection is on my to do list for ASAP too.
But, as part of the work I’m getting done on my house, I now have a new workspace, complete with a shiny new office chair. So comfortable, and a much better set up than I had before.
Until next month!
Meantime I’d love to see some of you in my readers group and/or signing up for my newsletter.
