REVIEW:
A new author-to-me that is blending a daddy/boy relationship with a rock star. Seemed right up my alley.
Silas is almost killed by his ex. His ex that called himself daddy but was far from that. And now he drowns in sorrow over the pain and loss he has caused. He will never be free to do what he loves again…write music and sing to his band’s fans. He has caused this by trusting in a person that turns out is a monster! When his brothers-in-life, his band mates, call an intervention to get Silas out of the house it seems insane. Sending him to a remote island to compete for a new daddy at an auction. At least it’s for a good cause but can it really help him?
First of all, there is nothing to go on that Daddy Mike is a retired seal other than it’s stated. It’s obvious that he works security and is partners in a security firm however he knows that Silas’ life is in danger but he leaves him alone in the house with no one guarding him even though Silas’ ex seems to know where they are and is sending threatening letters. I have a hard time believing that he has found his true boy and leaves him alone in the mansion to go out for a run. I even have a hard time believing Daddy Crane would be that careless and not have had security set up after all the rest of the auction participants left. Or had security called in when the first letter threatening Silas appeared.
I did like the chemistry between Mike and Silas. It was obviously that all of Daddy Mike’s buttons were pushed the minute he laid eyes on Silas. And his protective nature, both as ex-military/security and Daddy Dom, was on alert as soon as he knew Silas was in danger.
I loved the side story of Trent and Silas. I loved that he not only saw and knew that Daddy Mike and Silas was a given but befriended Silas when he needed it most. I would love for Trent to get his story but I don’t see any mention of future auctions or him from the author in the book’s Author’s note.
And now a personal pet peeve…you don’t want to get me started on the lack of good proofreading. I can accept that a mistyped word or letter ever so often but this was too much and pulled me out of the story way too many time trying to figure out the right word so I could figure out what the author was going for. And making me sign up for a newsletter so I can get the end of the story just makes me mad. Yes, there was an end, but it seemed rushed and this story desperately needed an epilogue. As long, drawn out and wordy (so wordy) as this story was it seemed very rushed at the end and I felt like I was left hanging a bit.
So, as you can guess, I liked the dynamic between Silas and Daddy Mike as a couple, but most of the book was too much chatter and not enough of moving forward. I think the story premise was a good thought but fell short for me.
