With the odds stacked against them, can three men find love?
Blurb
Joining the Council of Sorcery and Shifters was a simple decision for the ruler of the brown bears. Two centuries later, Artair Ursus Arctos is a successful leader with a loving family, and the only thing he wants is his mate. Artair is fascinated by magic and secretly hopes to find forever with a sorcerer.
As a child, Lochlan Airle had privilege and wealth but lacked any control. He walked away from his prominent family at eighteen, only to get fired from countless jobs. Behind the scenes, his mother uses all her connections to break his spirit, but she will not deter him. After finally landing a job at the Circle of Mages, a matebond is the last thing on his mind.
Twenty-six-year-old Riker McKenna has a hard-earned doctorate and enough magic to guarantee immortality. Although his brother’s decision to stay with their wastrel parents broke his heart, Riker is determined to make the most of everything. When he qualifies for employment at the Circle of Mages, he does not know it will lead him to his mates.
Within a week, the three men meet and must confront the poor odds of triple matebonds in the Council. To reach the affinity they desire, they will have to rapidly adjust to each other and all the surprises life has in store.
“I love honey, and that’s the fragrance around you guys,” Artair said.
Riker laughed so hard he fell into Lochlan’s lap.
“That’s amazing,” the terra mage managed through his chuckles.
“What’s so funny?” Artair demanded, reaching forward to push Riker’s hair from his face.
“Bears and honey. I love it. Do you eat it with your paws straight from the jar?”
“Lochlan, what do you say we toss him out the window and forget about this whole three-way mate thing?” Artair teased.
“I don’t know, I kind of like him,” Lochlan remarked, tucking a loose strand of Riker’s silky locks behind his ear when the terra mage sat up. “I want to apologize again for ruining our moment, Artair. It’s something I’ll regret for eternity.”
“Eternity?”
“Whoops, the bear doesn’t know we’re immortal,” Riker guffawed.
“Of course not, I haven’t had the opportunity of seeing you in your element, so to speak. That’s wonderful and rather frightening,” Artair murmured.
His heart ached at the idea of living forever while his family couldn’t, but life was rarely fair, and he’d have the two men smiling at him to help Artair grieve. Forcing himself to stay in the present, Artair brushed his thumb over Lochlan’s fine cheekbone.
“No more apologies, remember? It was my fault it wasn’t perfect, and the important thing is that we found one another.”
“I think we can make this work,” Lochlan whispered. A declaration like that from the cautious mage was music to Artair’s ears.
“I agree, we need to continue to take things step-by-step and focus on our communication so we can learn everything there is to know about each other,” Artair said.
“Let’s talk sex,” Riker suggested, then leaned close and kissed Lochlan deeply. That was all it took for Artair’s dick to spring to life.
With his cock already straining his khakis, Artair eagerly welcomed Riker’s mouth against his minutes later. It was lovely the way Riker surrendered, and the taste of him was earthy like his magic. When they broke for much-needed oxygen, Artair tugged Lochlan toward him, and the aqua mage forgot his innate shyness. Unreserved in their small tastes of each other, Lochlan fought for control, and it drove Artair wild.
“I need some clothes to come off,” Riker announced, flinging his shirt to floor.
Artair’s gaze swept over his muscled frame and he ached to touch him. Happy to oblige his desire for advancing their intimacy, Artair yanked off his button-down.
Two mages reached out and buried their hands in his chest hair.
“Lovely,” Lochlan murmured as they petted and massaged.
“Your turn,” Artair told Lochlan.
“Okay, but I’m scrawny, not built like you guys,” Lochlan lamented, slowly unbuttoning his top.
“Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes, but you aren’t scrawny,” Artair corrected. “You’re slender and gorgeous.”
“Definitely,” Riker said.
Lochlan summoned the courage to remove his shirt, and Artair marveled at the smooth, pale skin he revealed. Like his stunning face, there was a delicateness to Lochlan, and it was infinitely attractive.
“We’re not even naked yet, and I want to come,” said Riker.
“Are we getting naked?” Artair asked.
