Growing up together in the same foster home, they learned they could depend only on each other. But when Kyler—a boy barely half their age—arrived heartbroken and scared, the young men took him under their wings, vowing to take care of him and protect him.
But then an unimaginable nightmare tears their world apart, separating Sawyer and Jackson from Kyler. Doing their best to keep their vow, even after disaster struck, Sawyer and Jackson try to ensure Kyler is safe as he grows up without them.
Kyler always thought running from his past was his only option, until his past catches up with him in the form of Sawyer and Jackson. He finally realizes, maybe the only way forward is to go back to the past. But in doing so, the three of them find themselves embroiled in a family vendetta that spans decades, threatening to upend their world once again. Will Sawyer and Jackson finally be able to fulfill their promise to keep Kyler safe— while proving they accept and love him for who he is—or will the odds always be stacked against them?
REVIEW:
Oh my goodness gracious be ready for a ride with this one!
Sawyer and Jackson have been best friends and partners in all ways possible since they were teenagers in foster care. They have each other’s back and would go to the ends of the earth to protect their loved one. But something has been missing every since that horrific day when they were young…Kyler! But Sawyer has been able most of those years to keep track of him through his special “gift”. That all changed two years ago when Kyler simply vanished from his abilities until now when Sawyer gets a super strong vision. Jackson has been distraught since he lost sight of him. Now Sawyer is off to go find their boy and make sure he’s okay.
My emotions are all over the place with this one. The tragedy that happened to these young men was heartbreaking. The damage done to Jackson was unimaginable. The guilt that each man carried was so deep. Ky thinking he was the reason Jackson was dead. Jackson and Sawyer that they let what happened to Kyler happen on their young watch was excruciating I can’t fathom the guilt they each carried. And at their tender young ages was unbearable. But each of these men are strong and resilient. They can do anything especially when they are together.
There were so many special, wonderful, touching moments in this book. How first Sawyer and Jackson not only accepted but embraced Kyler’s genderfluidness and then Kyler’s grandparents and uncles. That was particularly touching. But the most precious and touching moment for me was when Ky explained her female parts and how she had dreamt of them being touched by the men that loved her so much. That scene literally brought me to tears. It was so tender and loving. If anyone ever questioned how much Jackson and Sawyer loved Kyler that scene left no doubt. Yes these men were fierce protectors but their hearts were what made me love each of them.
I was thrilled to get to see Cade, Braden, Sebastian and Gideon again. And I loved that Braden and Sebastian have incorporated Kyler into their friendship. All these men and their loved ones are special to me. They are fighters and survivors.
If you are expecting a quick read then you have picked the wrong book. This book is complex and expertly written. I have been faithfully waiting for this book. This series is a must-read for me. Luna David is a very gifted author that I truly enjoy and this newest book is no exception to that brilliant writing! I can’t recommend this book enough.
