Cash Mitchell
Cary Brewer is the best catcher in the country, and he’s part of the reason I’m starting my first Major League Baseball game for the Memphis Blues. He told me the first day of our minicamp that he’d make my life a living hell. Oh, he achieved that goal in spades, but I doubt in the way he intended.
Tragedy never takes a holiday, and having suffered one, I’m not ready for another. When it happens, Cary is there to support me. I have a guardian angel who’s been looking out for me, and I never knew it.
Now, I wonder what the cost will be for both of us—since I’ve already fallen for him.
Cary Brewer
Skip Mitchell told me that his nephew is a hell of a pitcher. Seeing the kid in action proves the man right. But when I lay eyes on Cash Mitchell, my gut ties itself in knots. Ask anyone—I’m not that guy.
The attraction I’m fighting tooth and claw will only be detrimental to both of our careers. I need to get away from him, but how do I do that?
The kid has me completely under his spell, and the blue in my uniform will match the blue in my pants if something doesn’t give.
This work of fiction is approximately 55,000 words in length, ends in an HEA, and can be read as a standalone novel.
REVIEW:
I have become huge fan of this author after starting The Lonely Heroes series. I appreciated the “change-up” to baseball (see I can make a sports pun!) and the less violent new series.
Cary Brewer is an all-star catcher for the Memphis Blues Major League Baseball team. His old friend and mentor Skip Mitchell has asked him to keep an eye on his rising star nephew Cash who has been brought up to the majors to pitch with him. How the heck is he suppose to keep his head down and just keep catching for one more year before he retires and can finally come out about his sexuality when all he wants is Cash?
I loved how dynamic these guys were together both on the field and between the covers. They just clicked even though it was inconvenient as hell since they were both closeted and professional baseball players. Sports and being gay in the country’s favorite pastime isn’t easy at all. But the brightest spot was Kim and the gang from Ben Dover’s Dragtime Cabaret devotion to these guys and making sure they got to keep together against all odds. I never saw coming the New Year Eve tribute to Cash’s Uncle but it was priceless!
I loved the older catcher and the young pitcher angle. It made their story even more special because Cary was will to give up everything for Cash to get his chance he deserved. Homophobia and a person’s sexual orientation shouldn’t be a deterrent to a young man getting to show his talents but unfortunately it’s common in the sports world.
I loved this new book and series and can’t wait to hear Kim and Skip’s story next. I have a feeling it could be a real heart breaker.
