Free books – how many do you want?
I’m getting the word out this weekend about a free book event (where you can get my novel The Family We Make and 9 others) and I realized that, as I downloaded the other authors’ interesting freebies, my unread books on my e-reader are hitting a tipping point of “I may never get to these.” I do grab freebies from favorite authors and read and love them, but as a way to meet new authors? Good intentions get submerged in the sea of waiting books.
There’s another big freebie release like the Winter Wonderland event planned for the summer, and I haven’t touched a quarter of my books from the last one. On the other hand, I did find one new author to stalk so far. So as we all look for ways to find a new audience for our stories, I’m not giving up on freebies, but I am wondering if readers are becoming saturated. I haven’t decided yet whether to put a story into the summer event (especially since I’d have to write it 🙂 )
Well, the overwhelming TBR pile isn’t a new problem. And I still love handing out books. So for now, I’m not changing my ways.
And if you’re a reader who still loves free stories, you can find my novel about 17-year-old Rick, who trades a life on the streets for the sanctuary of his straight older brother in a small Minnesota town, on the [ Family and Family Found Prolific Works Giveaway ] along with books by RJ Scott, AD Ellis, Annabeth Albert, K. Evan Coles, Elizabeth Noble, Wendy Rathbone, Felice Stevens, Victoria Sue, and Charley Descoteaux.
(I also have a perma-free short novella that serves as a prologue, though not a necessary one, with a different couple – The Family We’re Born With – https://www.amazon.com/Family-Were-Born…/dp/B00HBTG2AK/ or Smashwords – https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/388214))
(As a side note, if you’re searching Amazon today, there is a big glitch with the search function. It’s not just you.)
What do you think? Do you still immediately go check out freebies? Or are you starting to get blase about them?

I can’t imagine ever becoming blasé about free books. I love them especially since funds are a bit tight right now. That’s also why I love ARC’s…because I can delve into books from favorite, and new authors, while giving something back.
Even with UNL books, I always write a review…my way of showing appreciation for the talent they share with us.
I love the freebies for fout reasons. One, they’re free, yay. Two, I get access to new authors and more importantly quite a few that I now follow. Three, I get access to books by authors I already love that I may not have known about. Four, I love to read and although my tbr is quite extensive I still look forward to them. Keep them coming.
There were a lot of great books in the winter giveaway. So glad there’s going to be another this summer! I found some new to me authors and I’ve gotten more of their work since then. I confess to not reading all the free books I’ve gotten but I’m slowly working my way through.
I still download freebies even though my TBR pile is bursting at the seams. Thank You for this opportunity.
