Book Description
With a beginning as rocky as their pasts, it’d be easier if they stayed away from each other. They didn’t.
Leo Tomilson has come back to Harrington Hills after a fire that changed his life forever, and all he wants is to be left alone. No longer being a firefighter is something he might learn to live with, but there are days when he doesn’t even feel like a proper werewolf anymore. That cuts deeper than anything else.
Charlie Dewitt is as reliable as they come in Harrington Hills. Ever since he put down roots in this town, he’s never wanted to leave. His brother is here, his pack is here and so is his life. He has everything he needs. Not everything he wants, perhaps, but that’s fine.
Their first meeting is a mess because they clash over a series of misunderstandings. But Charlie is a patient man, Leo sees in him what most people miss and neither of them are good at taking the easy way out, so maybe there’s a chance for…something, after all.
Reader advisory: This book is best read as part of a series but can be read as a standalone. The book contains a scene of public sex.
He parked where Charlie indicated and turned off the engine before looking at the man. Their gazes met, and Leo figured he owed Charlie an apology for Sunday, but the words. Just. Wouldn’t. Come.
He glanced at his hands, once again gripping the steering wheel hard.
“Right,” he heard Charlie mutter so quietly that it had probably been meant for his own ears only. “Thank you for this,” Charlie added louder. “I really appreciate it. I’ll just grab my bags and get out of your hair.”
“I can—” Leo started, his hand already reaching for the door handle, but Charlie had already jumped out of the car.
“No, no,” he insisted. “I’ll be quick. Don’t worry.”
So Leo sat there with nothing to do but watch Charlie unload all his bags. Leo had thought that three in the morning shopping was reserved for things one craved when they couldn’t sleep, not the full-on grocery haul, but maybe Charlie preferred not to stand in line or something.
Or maybe he couldn’t sleep, just like you, the voice at the back of his head suggested.
He realized he hadn’t given any thought to why Charlie had been out there in the middle of the night before now. Leo had only noticed him in the store when Charlie had bumped his cart into a shelf and pulled him out of a memory of Ted, who had always argued with him over a cereal, insisting he should be allowed to eat as much sugar as his human body could handle if he wanted to.
‘I may not have your metabolism,’ Ted would say, jabbing him into his stomach, ‘but that doesn’t mean I have to live the sad existence of someone who doesn’t enjoy his breakfast.’
But that had been back when Leo being a werewolf and the various advantages that brought him had been a topic for teasing, not any serious fight.
Back before the fire that had changed everything.
The shutting of the back door pulled him out of his head again, only to realize that Charlie was walking away with the last of his bags. He’d probably said goodbye, too, and Leo had missed it. Damn it.
He was tempted to shrug it off and drive away, but he’d already acted like a jerk toward Charlie once. This, tonight, was his chance to redeem himself, but not if he left Charlie with an impression of being blown off again.
Leo leaned over the passenger seat and knocked on the window to catch Charlie’s attention.
Charlie turned back and looked at him with a frown, but when Leo lifted his hand in goodbye and mouthed “Bye”, Charlie’s face cleared and he nodded.
“Night,” he mouthed back, before turning to the groceries waiting for him at the entrance to the building.
Leo drove away and didn’t think about anything at all.

Megan Linden
Megan is one of those people who dreamed of being a writer since they were a little kid and then didn’t do anything about it for years. Then as a teenager she was introduced to fandom and… well. She fell head first into it and never looked back. At some point she decided to try writing her own characters in her own stories. And that’s where she is today.
When she’s not writing, Megan works as a psychologist and continues to learn the hard way that she can’t give all her clients their happy ending (she truly believes everyone can save themselves, though). That’s why she makes sure to give it to her characters, always.
She loves TV shows, books, fanworks and pizza (not necessarily in that order). But there’s nothing like getting messages from readers who enjoy her stories, so if you’re not sure it’s okay to contact her—yes, it is.
