A secret desire
By day, Finn builds houses on the coastline of Maine. Afterhours, Finn dreams of the hot older guy who walks his chocolate lab on Goose Rocks Beach. The man of his dreams ticks all his boxes. Salt and pepper hair. Strong jawline. Blue eyes.
His dream man is perfect fantasy material. As for actually speaking to him?
As if. Their paths won’t ever cross, and the guy is probably straight.
A new chapter
Recently divorced Joel is finally living as a gay man, but he’s not sure he’s ready to jump into a relationship. That doesn’t stop him from noticing his new contractor’s muscular build, hewn from hard, physical work, or his storm-colored eyes. Or the way he wears his tool belt slung low on his hips. The icing on the cake? There’s more to Finn than good looks. Maybe he’s the perfect guy to share long walks on the beach and warm nights in front of a fire.
But it’s been twenty years since Joel was with a man. While he’s not forgotten how to flirt, he’s nervous about making a move.
Especially with Finn.
REVIEW:
A lovely story with a wonderful concept. It took me some time to get into the story, I was overwhelmed at the beginning, all those names, I’m so bad with names. I made notes who was who and with whom.
Finn is twenty-five and has the best circle of friends you could wish for. He lives a good life, just missing one thing, someone to love.
Finn is building a hotel on Kings Highway. One man is walking by who got his interest but he is also out of reach. The man with the dog. It seems the man is spoken for, he saw him with his wife and two kids.
We can follow Finn where he’s at work, or with friends, all with a lot of banter. But now and then the man with the dog pops up.
Parallel to Finn’s life we meet and follow Joel’s, he is in his early forties, divorced after he finally admitted he’s gay, still friends with his ex-wife. They have two kids Nate he’s eighteen, and Laura fifteen. Joel struggles quite with his relationship with Nate.
While Finn and Joel are the main characters, this narrative reaches further, with family, friends, and hilarious co-workers. We get to know them bit by bit. It’s part one of a series and I guess all the friends will have their own story where all the others will appear again.
A nicely written slow burn, May/December story, there is a lot of fun, I was grinning frequently, there’s no angst. It got some emotional parts where I had to blink some tears away, some appealing sexiness, and a sweet romance between two mature, engaging men with kind personalities. Supportive friends and families made it all complete.
You can only wish them love and happiness.
