BLURB:
Bar owner Hennessey McCoy finally has his life on track after being discharged from the U.S. Coast Guard under mysterious circumstances. He’s rebuilt his life piece by piece and Hennessey is the right place to open his heart to the right man. When his three-year-old niece goes missing at a party, Hennessey is paired with an annoyingly handsome search and rescue dog handler to help find the child.
Morrison Rowe, with the help of his search and rescue K9, Ahab, saves the day and finds the missing child, no thanks to Hennessey’s gruff and sarcastic manner. He can’t help thinking there’s more to Hennessey than sarcastic quips and a razor-sharp wit. Morrison sees a different, gentler side of the grumpy bar owner when he’s reunited with his niece.
As a way to say thank you, Hennessey invites Morrison to his bar, Bait for a free lunch. Never dreaming Morrison would take him up on the offer, Hennessey finds himself undeniably attracted to the dog handler. The pair begin spending time together, both encouraging the spark between them to grow into something more.
Things are heating up between Hennessey and Morrison when a man from Hennessey’s past comes to town, threatening to destroy everything he’s built from the ground up. Can Hennessey overcome the mistakes of his past or will this man steal his future as well?
REVIEW:
I love this latest book in the Protect and Serve series. Hennessey’s Handler is the fourth book in the series and is not a standalone. Several characters from the previous books make appearances in this book. In this book we have Hennessey and Morrison as our main characters. Hennessey is the oldest of the brother’s and has been retired from the Coast Guard for awhile and he owns his own bar, Bait. Morrison is a K-9 search and rescue handler. Enter a precocious little girl, who is quite the adventurer and goes missing from her birthday party. Kennedy, one of Hennessey’s brothers, calls in Morrison to help search for the missing little girl. Hennessey pairs up with Morrison and his dog, Ahab to search for Lola. As they search, of course, they but heads, but in the end are successful in finding her. After the panic and relief of finding Lola wears off, Hennessey feels a bit guilty about his treatment of Morrison. So, in a gesture of friendship offers to buy him lunch at his bar. Or is it just friendship on Hennessey’s mind? Morrison accepts and their adventure begins. It would not be a Pandora Pine book without some serious obstacles to the couples HEA. Hennessey’s brother Quentin has reappeared and is dealing with his PTSD – but not well. Hennessey goes to Morrison to ask if a dog would help Quentin. Morrison makes a deal with his father, who owns a breeding/dog training program, in spite of their tense relationship, an attempt to help Quentin. Then a man from Hennessey’s past appears and stalks him. Tragedy occurs and threatens the new couple’s happiness. Will they be able to survive this tragedy? Will Hennessey be forced to reevaluate his life choices? Will Morrison live up to his father’s expectations? To find out pick up this book and you will enjoy it just as much as I did.
I am always anxiously awaiting the latest release from Pandora, as she has great worldbuilding, and great characters – that have some seriously witty banter and some really hot sexy times. This time around, she had one of my favorite side characters – Ahab, the K-9 search and rescue dog.
