The Quiet House by Lily Morton
Blank and Blue, Book 2
Levi Black has mostly recovered from the events of a year ago. The only lingering effects are that he’s much more well known in York than he’d like to be, and he’s a lot more cautious about walking around his house naked. However, those events brought him the capricious and fascinating Blue, so he’s not complaining. On the contrary, he’s happy, in love, and looking forward to Blue finally moving in with him. And if sometimes he wonders what Blue sees in a boring cartoonist, he keeps that to himself.
Blue Billings is finally ready to throw off the memories of his past and move in with the person who means the most in the world to him. His psychic abilities have grown in the last year to his mentor Tom’s consternation, but Blue is determined to look on the bright side. He’s also focused on ignoring all the warning signs that he’s received lately.
However, even deeply buried secrets have a way of rising to the surface. And when a surprise from Blue’s past turns up and draws them away to a lonely house on the Yorkshire moors, Levi and Blue must fight for their survival once again.
From bestselling author, Lily Morton, comes the second book in the Black and Blue series. The books should be read in order.

I step over to the window, warming my hands on my mug and inhaling the scent of the fresh coffee gratefully. The street lights around the Minster are starting to come on in the gathering gloom. Soon the Minster’s façade will be illuminated by the Christmas light show. It will also play along our bedroom ceiling, painting Blue’s skin in red and green.
A group of people walk along the lane below me, and I watch them laugh and disappear into the growing shadows. I frown as I remember last night and the man that Blue saw. I search the cobbled lane and unsurprisingly there’s nothing, but I still make a note to ask him if he’d discussed it with Tom. I may not have seen the strange man, but his arrival has left worry clinging like grit to my skin. A sense that something is coming.
Dismissing the gloomy thoughts, I throw myself onto the sofa and go through my post. A few minutes later, the door creaks and I look up from noting dates in my diary to see the dirty-blond head of my beloved.
“Finished?” I ask.
Blue sees private clients for readings in the warmth of our kitchen, a world away from his old hangout with the scammers Spud and Fay in Spud’s shop. People seek him out, drawn by the whispers of what happened in this house last year. They stay because he’s something different. Powerful but warm. Honest but kind. The money they pay is sent straight to a homeless charity.
He wanders in, and I put my diary to one side and open my arms as he climbs into my lap. He exhales, and his body relaxes as if his troubles have rolled off him. I hug him tight and kiss his hair, inhaling the ever-present scent of peaches. It reminds me of first coming to York and falling in love with the complicated and wonderful man in my lap.
“Everything okay?” I ask.
He nods. “She’s starting to come out of that wild grief.”
Linda lost her husband two years ago and began to go to mediums in the hope of contacting him. Blue’s task has been to try and steer her away from the dead and back to the living, but it hasn’t been easy.
We sit quietly for a while, and then he stirs and nods at my diary. “What are you doing?”
“Noting some dates down,” I say, stroking my fingers through the silky waves of his hair. “Just some deadlines and then there’s the award ceremony.” My newspaper cartoon strip featuring Blue’s psychic adventures has been nominated for a big award and Blue is immensely proud of it.
He sits back and grins. “Ooh, are we going?”
I shrug and make a face. “If you want to.”
“Erm, do I want to see my boyfriend be given an award for drawing me? I’m a fucking muse, Levi. I want the world to notice.”
