Welcome to Takoda Outreach Center. Prepare yourself for open hearts, a full belly, and all the love you can handle.
Look, I know my life doesn’t look easy. I adopted the three children I fostered, and they keep me on my toes. My house is a little lived in, they eat constantly, and someone always needs a ride somewhere. It’s amazing, stressful, and exhausting, but mostly amazing.
When I took my daughter to get fancy braids for her first day of kindergarten, I wasn’t trying to make a new friend out of Austin, the hottie hair stylist. I have a perfectly good support system already. Yet, everytime I turn around, he’s right there ready to save the day. Including a little sexy-time stress relief.
While I appreciate everything he’s done for us, especially watching the kids so I can help set up a childcare care center at Takoda Outreach Center, I’m not interested in more. At least that’s what I keep telling myself…
Here in the fifth book of the Takoda Outreach Series, you can expect moonlight motorcycle rides, ill-timed knocks at the door, and a science experiment gone wrong. And as always in Sammi’s low-angst, super-sweet world, hugs are freely given and happily-ever-afters are guaranteed.
REVIEW:
This was a hard one for me, maybe because I saw so much of Judson in myself. With all that he’s been through lately in his life, it’s been so hard. And being a single parent, let me tell, raising ONE is hard enough. But with him trying to raise 3, who are smarter than he thinks, all while trying to work full time and volunteer and just basically trying to survive, it’s too much.
When Austin comes along, I don’t blame him for being attracted to Judson. In every book that Judson’s in, he and his kids are so much a part of everything. You can’t help but love him and those babies. But for Judson, having Austin having fun with his kids is one thing. Austin trying to have fun with him, is a whole different story. And I don’t blame him. The kids come first in everything. It’s always that way for parents, especially single ones that really care, because you don’t want to be involved with someone that’s going to hurt your kids. So you close yourself down, and do the best you can for your kids.
But what I loved even more about Austin is that Judson being a single dad didn’t phase him in the least. He loved it. He wanted the kids in his life. Not just Judson. He knew they all came as a packaged deal. And that’s so so important. Most just want the adult and forget about the kids. It doesn’t work that way. And having someone interested in Judson after so long and after what he’s been through, it’s a shock to his system. And I don’t blame him again. But one good thing about Judson, is it may have been a hard, hard lesson to learn, but he had to quit comparing Austin to the one who hurt him. Austin was genuine. Austin didn’t push….much. And when he did, it wasn’t in a mean spiteful way. He really wanted to get to know everyone in that family and show that not all people can be bad. That life can be lived again, with a little faith and love, and a small group of kids who know their dad needs someone for him.
This is a sweet as can be love story. After all the stories with Judson in them, I was hoping to see him get someone for himself. Someone to show him love and light and laughter again. And it’s worth every minute.
