Ms. Rebecca James who penned The Hedonist is back with a new series called Balls and Brawn Bodyguard. This is the first book in the series, Out of Harm’s Way.
Domestic violence happens to a lot of people and most of the time the victims usually keep it a secret because for some reason, they are ashamed that it happened to them and that somehow they were at fault. But sometimes, they keep it quiet because they are truly afraid for their lives. Although there are also those few who actively find ways to get away from their situation and will keep on trying, no matter what. So for those friends and relatives who see these relationships happening, please be mindful and be ready to intervene, for the sake of your loved one.
Mick tried and succeeded to get away from his abusive ex. He sought help from his friends, who were always ready to help him, and one even went as far as to check the record of his ex and found that he was wanted in another state for a crime he committed. Unfortunately his ex escaped prison and is now actively communicating with him, threatening him for what he has done (which was allowing his friends to put his ex in prison because of what he had done in the past). Mick doesn’t really know how his ex gets his number every time, he just does. He is truly scared for his life again and just when he just started to get it back on track. His friends decided to hire a bodyguard for him. If you remember Dante from The Hedonist series, we know that he has become a lawyer and in one of his cases, he helped a security firm. The Security firm’s name is Foster Security.
Oxford “Ox” Bradford was a teacher before he decided to quit and moved to another state and trained to be a bodyguard. He loved being a teacher but he only did it because it was what his parents wanted. Both of his parents were Academics. Providing security is something that he loves to do. He likes to help people and keeping them safe from whatever harm threatens them makes him feel fulfilled. His latest assignment is to provide security for a young man who is being hounded by his abusive ex.
Mick loves big men, specifically daddy types, big and older than him. He thinks that was what landed him in trouble with his ex. He was big and oozes daddy vibes. But what started as something he wanted soon turned into a nightmare when his so-called Daddy started hurting and abusing him for real. When he met Ox, his mind immediately went to the fact that Ox is big and can easily do him bodily harm, just like his ex did. But Ox is showing him that not all big men are abusive, most can be kind and gentle, caring and loving.
I loved The Hedonist series of Ms. James, and I am excited about this new series. We know that although her main characters are strong, tough and capable men, they are also caring, loving and not afraid to fight for the loves of their lives. I am looking forward to the next book which is the story of West and Logan, two of the bosses in the security firm. Congratulations Ms. Rebecca James!
