BLURB:
Plants are easier than people – that’s Leo’s rule of thumb. After all, nobody really wants a man who looks like he belongs in a biker gang but would rather spend his time buried in books and flowers. It’s just easier to be single. Until he meets the owner of the new book shop.
Jacob Morris knows two things: He’s really attracted to the man who runs the local flower shop, and he doesn’t date. Not when he’s still healing from a bad breakup, has a new business to run, game nights to organize, workshops to host, and a website to build.
When friendship blooms into something more, Leo and Jay must decide whether to roll the dice and take a chance on love or keep forging ahead on their quests alone. Will their roll yield a one or a perfect, natural 20?
REVIEW:
Natural Twenty is a sweet tale of love between two adorable and very endearing main characters, Leo and Jay. They started out as friends, got to know each other really well through numerous interactions and amidst all the “doubts and thinking in between” became lovers.
Remember the saying, “Never judge a book by its cover?” Well, just because of how someone looks physically, we assume automatically that that person is one thing, bear in mind, that nowadays, it is more important to be comfortable in your own skin rather than assume another personality that can only lead into misunderstanding, depression and complications. Being true to oneself is so much better than being someone else just to please those around you. And I guess it lets you see who truly are your friends.
Leo might look tough and scary outside mainly because of his tattoos (even though they are of flowers) and his size (he is tall and big), but he is really very sweet and caring. He just doesn’t feel really comfortable interacting with other people, and maybe that’s just the way he is, so he thought. After graduating from the university and while thinking of what he really wanted to do, Leo helped his grandma to do her church flowers. He never thought he’d end up having his own flower shop which he named Wild Things. At first, he was doing everything on his own, but he soon realized it was impossible, he was running himself to the ground. So he decided to hire someone to help him. Emily has been with him for a few years now. And although he still works very hard, a lot of load has been taken from his shoulders and besides that, Emily is so much better handling the costumers up front in the shop. And he is able to do what he loves most, take care of his flowers and make beautiful arrangements for his customers.
Jay has just opened his own bookstore, The Lost World, a few doors from Wild Things. He and his best friend, Edward, are partners in this business. He just moved from London where he also ended things with his boyfriend who cheated on him. He mistakenly assumes that it was all his fault because he was working all the time, never had the time for them. Now he is starting over with the thing he has always wanted to do, have his own book shop. He thinks of himself as clumsy and talkative, but I think these are two of his most endearing qualities (not that I want him to constantly hurt himself with his clumsiness, but it is adorable).
Let me just point something out very sweet, the mention of names of flowers at the beginning of every chapter and what it means. It is so sweet and educational.
I have always love the voice of Mr. Joel Leslie. His voice over of the characters in this tale is so amazing. The accents, the different inflections and tones he uses for the different characters are on point. The delivery of lines is precise. You would love hearing the antics the characters get into. I have said this several time that it is not an easy feat to voice over different characters using different tones and inflections and being able to maintain that all throughout.
Congratulations to both Charlie Novak and Joel Leslie for an amazing audiobook. It sounds incredible!
