Austin Steele is my idol. He’s also the guy I can’t get enough of.
Everyone thinks they know who I am—one of pop’s biggest divos. They don’t know me at all. Austin Steele makes me want to see the real me, only there’s some problems:
We’re both omegas, he’s nineteen years my senior, he’s nursing old wounds, and he wants to keep what’s happening between us a secret.
I thought a one-night stand was all I wanted. Now it’s becoming so much more. But how can we look to the future when we can’t let go of our pasts?
Unapologetically Me is the third book in Offbeat Shifters, an m/m paranormal romance series with a continuing storyline. This book includes a misunderstood and unapologetic Arctic fox shifter, a caring capuchin monkey shifter, and a HFN ending. While it’s set in an alternate universe where omegas give birth, there are no pregnancy or birth scenes in this book.
“Do you see yourself getting married one day?” Austin asked. “And having kids?”
I turned to face him with a big grin plastered across my face. “Oh, come on now, Austin. I expect a bit more romance from a proposal. At least get down on one knee before popping the question.”
Austin’s face fell. His mouth gaped open as he stared at me.
“Relax! I was kidding.” I passed my hand over my face, putting on a more serious expression. “No. I don’t think I’ll ever get married.”
“Why not?”
I shrugged. “Guys want to sleep with me, not marry me.” I played with his shirt buttons. “You know how that feels too, huh?”
“Yes,” he whispered right before I kissed him.
The full glass of water in my hand was going to get annoying quickly. I looked around for somewhere to put it and eventually settled on the mantlepiece, which was a couple of steps away.
“That’s what’s happening right now, isn’t it?” Austin asked.
“Yes,” I admitted, wrapping my arm around his shoulder so I could kiss him again. Damn, I loved the way his lips felt against mine. “But as long as we both know that and both want the same thing, it’s okay, right?”
Austin nodded, put his hands on my hips, and tugged me so our bodies melted against one another.
“What about you?” I asked. “Did you ever want to get married?”
“I had the same experiences as you,” Austin said in a mournful tone. “Lots of guys wanted to fuck me, but none of them wanted to hang around after the deed was done.”
I winced, wondering if he was taking a jab at me for leaving so quickly last time. “And after you quit? Didn’t you want to find someone to settle down with, then?”
“I didn’t quit.”
I decided now was not the time to get into that debate. “Okay…did you want to settle down after your career ended?”
“No. I had a kid in tow and no clue who his other dad was. No alpha would have wanted me.”
“I don’t think that’s true.” I brushed my fingers over his face. “You’re gorgeous, Austin. You’re crazy talented. You wouldn’t have had any trouble finding someone if you’d wanted.”
He slipped his hand beneath my jumper and T-shirt and began to stroke my back, right over my spine.
“That tickles. Are you trying to distract me?”
“Yes.”
“Naughty.” I pressed my mouth to his neck and kissed and nibbled his skin. The short hairs from his scruffy beard, which went partway down his neck, tickled my nose and lips. “Anyway, you don’t have a kid in tow anymore. Nothing’s stopping you from going out and finding the man of your dreams now.”
