Love and death should never mix.
I was chosen to protect the only heir to the Lebottier empire. I’m highly trained and skilled, and I’m the best man for the job.
But I hadn’t planned on the fact that protecting the entitled troublemaker would put my patience to the test. Emile Lebottier reveals himself to be quite a challenge to deal with.
Now, not only do I have to survive being stuck in a room with the most irritating man I have ever met, but I also have to make sure nobody murders him. If this weren’t enough, I need to fight back the growing attraction that I’m feeling for the little devil.
Because loving him could kill us both.
REVIEW:
New to me author Lula Duval, gives us her debut novel Dangerously French, the first book in the Dangerously International series. This book is touted as an enemies to lover’s romance, but I found it to be more of a cute, low angst, murder mystery. I enjoyed her world building – a dark, gritty, intense world based in Paris. I found her characters to be interesting and well fleshed out.
The main characters in this story are Emile and Sky. Emile is a spoiled hotel magnate heir and Sky is a security guard for the hotel in Paris. Emile and Sky are brought together when Emile is forced to return to Paris after the death of his father. But it is not just a simple death of natural causes, his father has been murdered. Fearing Emile maybe next, his handlers put him under “house arrest” and assign Sky to be his personal bodyguard. Emile and Sky do not exactly see eye to eye at the beginning of this confinement. So, Emile takes matters into his own hands and escapes from the hotel. Taking his job seriously, Sky follows Emile to hopefully keep him alive. As they traverse Paris in the hunt for Emile’s father’s murderer, trouble finds them, and Sky must save them both. This brings Emile and Sky closer and closer together, as the body count rises. The closer they get to the answers they seek; some surprising twists occur. Will Emile and Sky find his father’s murderer? Will they survive the people now chasing them? Will a shocking secret from Emile’s past, cement the future for Emile and Sky? Pick this book up and find out the answers.
This book is a happy for now ending but has a longer ranging story arc that will be told in the subsequent books in the series. For a debut novel, I was pleasantly surprised and would recommend this story.
