When the full moon rises, your soul will become complete…
Those are the words ominously whispered to Jeremiah Singleton his first day aboard the Pride of the Caribbean—an enchanted cruise ship where paranormals hide in plain sight.
Jeremiah leads a quiet life running an aquarium store. Stepping out of his shell to attend his sister’s wedding aboard the Pride, Jeremiah is delightfully surprised to find himself in a whirlwind romance with a handsome blue-eyed school teacher.
Skip Weaver has always been lucky, so it was no shock when he won a cruise. The one thing Skip hasn’t had any luck with is love. But his streak of bad luck with love could finally be over when he meets Jeremiah.
However, nothing aboard the Pride is ever that simple.
Ancient legends, untapped magic, secrets from the past, and dangerous stalkers are on the itinerary for this tropical getaway. Both men are about to get the surprise of their lives, and all of it might be too much for their shipboard romance to survive.
REVIEW:
The basic plot of Vacation Tails is quite simple: Jeremiah boarder the Pride of Caribbean for his sister’s wedding, met Skip the first day of the cruise, two days later he met his twin brother and found he was a merman, and six days later, the happily ever after.
Things moved pretty fast and, in a fascinating way, also slow, because, while the plot moved forward, the author slipped in full descriptions of all the characters, main and secondary. I really appreciated that, because it gave me an amazing visual of all the people with an active role in the story as well as a better understanding of the protagonists and their emotions.
It was soon obvious that some people aboard the Pride of the Caribbean weren’t precisely, shell me say, 𝘯𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘭. I had fun trying to guess who was human or magic, while Skip and Jeremiah moved on the decks or went on their dates. Everything was told with a humorous tone and I smiled through it all, especially when Skip had a few encounters with a strangely acting Jeremiah (who eventually turned out to be Aleek, the twin).
The buildup up of emotions between Jeremiah and Skip started off as instant attraction and they had two days to know each other, but then Jeremiah took to swimming as a merman with Aleek for five days, so they put their romance on hold, so to speak. As soon as he got back, the situation between them became too sugary for my tastes, with the I love you-s declared too soon and too many times… 𝘢𝘯𝘥 a marriage proposal the day after. Apparently they were fated mates, even so…
I really enjoyed Vacation Tails as a whole. The writing was amazing and engaging, keeping my attention on the story. The author gave particular attention to details, both emotional and physical, and I liked the various paranormal and magical elements. But, the only thing that absolutely disappointed me was that, while Jeremiah’s adopted family was thoroughly introduced -and I loved all of them, the author left me completely in the dark about his merman family. I wish there had been at least a meeting with his mother, yet, not only that didn’t happen, the merman society as a whole was scarcely described. My only guess, or hope more like, is that Deanna Wadsworth is planning a future book with that specific plot. I’ll happily read it and I’m excited for any future books in this series.
