In Home and Family, one thing that is central to the story are goats. Dell and Clay’s farm has expanded their goat herd and are now making cheese to sell at the farm market as well as to a chain of specialty grocery stores. In researching for this story, I leaned a great deal about goats milk. For one thing, the cheese is creamy and it’s something I can have, being lactose intolerant. What’s left over from making cheese can be used to make soap. Which is interesting because Dominic’s boss makes goat’s milk soap. She gave him some for Christmas. Goats are incredibly useful and dang of they aren’t cure.
The idea for using goats in these stories came from my friend Michelle whose family keeps a small herd of goats. They are so cute and very friendly. Don’t get me started on the babies. They ping pretty high on the cuteness meter. I even asked Dominic if I could get a goat and he looked at me as though I had lost my mind. I could actually keep one at the house as a pet, believe it or not. I told him it would be a pygmy goat. Unfortunately that didn’t help my case. So I’ll have to be content with the goats in my stories.
