LENGTH: 216 pages
RELEASE DATE: February 4, 2021
BLURB:
Morli is a prince on a mission—but he’d rather be baking.
Baxter is a lonely production artist stuck in a pandemic lockdown.
They are literally universes apart. But with a little help from a magic shop, a raven, and a dead great-aunt who was possibly a witch, Morli and Baxter are joined together on a cross-worlds adventure. Battling killer brambles in order to rescue an enchanted princess seems simple compared to their real challenges: discovering their strengths and creating a future together.
The Muffin Man is part of the Magic Emporium Series. Each book stands alone, but each one features an appearance by Marden’s Magic Emporium, a shop that can appear anywhere, but only once and only when someone is in dire need. This book contains reluctant heroes, sentient sourdough starter, lots of carbs, and a guaranteed HEA.
REVIEW:
I’ve really enjoyed seeing how these stories twist and turn and how the Emporium is going to end up in each one. The way that store pops up out of nowhere is often quite humorous. But this one was interesting in that it was like a twist of several stories. Sleeping Beauty is the prominent one. But I swear it feels like more are in there. But for the life of me I can’t figure out which ones off the top of my head. Either way, it’s a good story. It has it’s very sad moments. And moments you really want to smack a few people upside the head, but the HEA is worth it.
I think as much as I loved Baxter’s soft, gentle nature, it was Morli that got to me. Even in this day and age, royalty or those who are wealthy hold themselves above everyone else and for those with kids, the kids are often not wanting to be in the spotlight. Some lavish in it. And if that’s for them, that’s fine. But it breaks my heart that those who dare to be different, those who do not want to be in the spotlight or have to follow the stuffy rules and treat others like crap, they themselves are treated like pariahs. And it’s so unfair. It’s not that Morli didn’t want to be a Prince. He didn’t even often shirk his princely duties. But on his own time, he just wanted to be happy and bake. Play with ingredients and make people happy with what he made. It’s just who he was and wanted to be. But for his parents and snooty brother, it was beneath him. And what they made him do, was ghastly. And I can’t wrap my head around how a parent could be so cruel to their own child.
I was so happy when Morli got a second chance and got to meet Baxter. Baxter didn’t care he was a prince. Or from another time. Didn’t care how he came to be or what his past was like. All he cared about was Morli himself. He was happy. He was happy to see the world through Morli’s eyes. To show Morli life in his world. He was happy that someone liked things that he did, especially the baking. And for once in his life, he wasn’t alone anymore.
But of course, life doesn’t come without its surprises or it’s ups and downs. Sometimes there always seems to be a catch. In this case, they both know that Morli doesn’t really belong in Baxter’s world. He needs to follow his own path and do what he feels is right. But then life has it’s good surprises too.. ..especially when the love of your life gets to join the adventure with you.
It’s a good story. I am really enjoying how these stories are turning out. It’s exciting to see how they are taking tales and adding the twists to them. I can’t wait to see the next one.
