Eli was only seven years old when he had been given to monsters.
Sixteen years later he finally gets the chance for revenge, and with his enhanced abilities changing, nothing and no one is going to stop him, especially a new partner who seems to see right through the black holes in his soul.
Agent Daniel Connelly left Washington trying to keep his sanity, but the images of the innocent victims are still haunting him and knows the horror in Eli’s eyes is exactly what he is trying to forget.
Everybody Burns is a story about two men falling in love. Except one doesn’t think he is capable of it…and the other doesn’t think he deserves it.
REVIEW:
I have been waiting for Eli’s story, since I first picked up book one of this series. I knew whatever was driving Eli, it had to be epic. Daniel and Eli are a match made in book heaven. Daniel had left Washington, DC to put behind him the horrors he has seen and experienced. As part of the new task force of human and enhanced, Daniel is partnered with Eli. Who is epically hard to handle. There are a lot of off page references to Eli’s past and what he went through, as he grew up. But in the end, this does not deter Daniel. With the patience of a saint, Daniel breaks through to Eli and they begin the long arduous road to happy ever after.
Victoria Sue is a master storyteller. Her world building is extremely detailed, so much so, you feel like you are in this world fighting for justice for all the enhanced. Her characterizations are heartbreakingly real. Eli’s struggle to accept his past and make the conscious decision to take a leap of faith with Daniel is stunning.
But what makes this more than just an ordinary listen is Iggy Toma’s performance of this story. Iggy brings this story to life. He embodies the heartbreak in Eli’s life and Daniels reticence to pursue anything more than friendship with Eli. He creates voices that are unique to each character and draw you in, so you experience Victoria’s words, not just feel them. And experience them, I did. Crying did take place while listening to this incredible story. I think I actually experienced the entire gamut of emotions with this story. If you want to experience, masterful storytelling, brought to life by a fantastic narrator, you should pick this story and sit back, turn on the ear pods and enjoy the much-awaited story of Eli and him finding love and courage with Daniel Connelly. You will not regret it.
