BLURB:
Ever since his discharge from the military, injured veteran Ashton Covert has been running his family ranch—and running himself into the ground to prove he still can.
Ben Malton knows about running too. When he takes refuge in Ashton’s barn after an accident in a Wyoming blizzard, he’s thinking only of survival and escaping his abusive criminal ex, Dallas.
Ashton has never met a responsibility he wouldn’t try to shoulder. When he finds Ben half-frozen, he takes it upon himself to help. But deadly trouble follows Ben wherever he goes. He needs to continue on, except it may already be too late.
Working together brings Ben and Ashton close, kindling fires not even the Wyoming winter can douse. Something about Ben makes Ashton feel whole again. But before they can ride into the sunset together, they need to put an end to Dallas’s threats. Ben can make a stand, with Ashton’s help—only it turns out the real danger could be much closer to home.
REVIEW:
Ashton is doing his best to “cowboy up.” It’s hard to do when you can’t get on a horse. Ashton came home to take care of his family’s ranch, but things are starting to get a little bit hard to deal with, physically and mentally. Thank goodness he’s got some good people to depend on.
Ben is looking to escape from a prison he brought upon himself. He’s finally got the courage to leave, but his old life wants to keep hanging on. Ben doesn’t have anyone to count on…but he’d like to.
I liked this story. Andrew Grey always knows how to write relatable characters that tug at my heartstrings. Ashton thrives when he has something to take care of, but Ben helps him realize that maybe it’s okay to need taking care of once in a while.
Ashton has some good friends in Lucifer and Reg and Marcel. Good men who have no problem taking Ben into their fold and showing him that he deserves better than the life he was trying to leave behind. Men who stand up for what’s right, even when things get scary.
Grey is a reliable storyteller, one who knows how to draw you in with characters who evoke sympathy in the the reader. You just can’t help rooting for these guys…and wanting to kick the bad guys in the ass.
There’s no doubt about where the story is going and the “twist” isn’t really that hard to see coming. I found the chemistry moved just a little too fast for me, but it was still a good story. You can always count on this author to give you an ending that will leave you smiling.
I found this story a comfortable read, the kind I like when I’m looking to make myself happy. If you are an Andrew Grey fan, this won’t leave you disappointed.
One last note. I’d be interested in seeing more about Lucifer and Marcel. Guys like that deserve a happy ending of their own!
