~Gay American Dom with a fabulous sub juggles romance and bondage with Scotland Yard police work.~
When Brian Harrison first met Jackie Vasquez at a Hawaiian wedding, Jackie was sixteen and troubled. Six years later they meet again; Brian’s career at Scotland Yard is budding with promise, while Jackie’s student days at the University of Nebraska are rolling toward a strong finish. Magnetic mutual attraction pulls them insistently toward one another, but the ocean separating their lives makes for a simmering romance.
When the waiting ends and they get together for a weekend in Denver, Dom Brian and sub Jackie both know they’ve tapped into something scalding hot, and much deeper than sharing an artful session. Shibari, lust, and love are all on the agenda — but for Brian, so is his police career, and a strange series of crimes seems poised to threaten their romance — and maybe their lives.
REVIEW:
This is a truly intriguing start to this series. For fans of the Vasquez & James series, this is a spin-off centering on Jackie, Luki’s nephew and a key character in Book 3 of that series and Brian Harrison, a former colleague of Luki’s. Brian and Jackie met briefly before the main events of Book 3 and this story begins almost 5 years later.
Brian is working for Scotland Yard now and has been living in London. During a Christmas visit to see his family in the US, he makes a visit to see Luki and his husband Sonny. As it turns out, Jackie Vasquez is visiting his uncle at the same time 🙂 Brian has never forgotten the beautiful and intriguing boy who has now grown into a man. If anything Jackie has only become more attractive to Brian. When they see each other again, it’s apparent that Jackie is also drawn to Brian. Jackie is finishing up his undergraduate degree in psychology and he’s done a lot of difficult work in healing from his ordeal. Their attraction is fairly obvious to anyone with eyes 😉 Brian, who has been dabbling in the BDSM scene in London and he rather quickly discerns that Jackie is a natural sub.
When Jackie issues an invitation to Brian to attend his university graduation, Brian is excited to make the trip. Jackie and Brian have communicated during his final semester at university and Brian cannot wait to see Jackie again. He has only one concern – which is Jackie’s habit of geocaching on his own. He’s committed to no longer doing this to give Brian peace of mind. He has a very special graduation gift for Jackie – a trip to Denver for the two of them after the graduation along with a shibari demonstration at a local club. The heat builds between them and they experience a wonderful night together. The idyll of their trip is interrupted by Brian’s case in London and he’s pulled into research. But they have established something much bigger between them.
This new version of this story is really about establishing the relationship between Jackie and Brian now that Jackie is an adult. They have never forgotten each other after the drama of their previous contact. Jackie is ready to move on to an adult relationship. He’s done so much work to heal himself from the trauma that he endured and he’s accepted things about himself. He’s excited to let his relationship with Brian transform to one of equals and he’s equally intrigued with the D/s dynamic of their sexual relationship. He’ still got things to do, but he’s definitely interested in moving forward with Brian. Brian has a demanding job and he’s done well – but he also has a lot more to do. Only time will tell if they will be able to build on this trip and have something more lasting and real as opposed to a vacation tryst. Looking forward with some trepidation as to what comes next – particularly given the sinister aspect of Brian’s case. Recommended and can’t wait for more!
