Their love story isn’t easy.
Every night Ledger stands on the stage of Joker’s Sin, the most popular gay nightclub in Haven Hart, mixing music. Many of the people who come through the doors want his attention, but lately he’s only had eyes for the red-headed bartender, Shane. When Ledger is invited to be on a panel at DJ Con, he asks for support from his friends at Joker’s Sin. To his surprise, Shane shows up.
For Shane, Ledger is everything he’s ever been attracted to in a person. They’ve danced around each other for a while, but finally getting to know the intense DJ one-on-one, he realizes there’s even more to Ledger than he ever knew.
Then craziness ensues. Someone sets their sights on Ledger, determined to make him theirs, and he and Shane find themselves fighting for their lives instead of living it. Whoever is behind this will stop at nothing to get Ledger in their arms.
With people getting hurt and dying around Ledger, can he keep the one man he’s just finally admitted he wants from a murderous fate, or will someone’s crazed obsession end it all?
REVIEW:
As with the previous books in the Haven Hart/Joker’s Sin books, life can get pretty brutal for the characters. I have to be honest and admit that Ledger and Shaun didn’t grab me as other pairings in the books have, but to be fair, there have been some pretty outstanding couples.
As I read an ARC I won’t comment on technicalities because I don’t know how much time it still has to clean up. I certainly hope it does because at the beginning there are some examples of immature writing that might give the wrong impression about the rest of the book. This is most certainly a grown up story, generally well written and well told.
Ledger takes us on a journey into the world of successful DJ’s, and I learned some interesting facts.
Two of the characters that particularly worked for me were Tiffany and Ziggy. They are both so different – from each other and both Ledger and Shane. They have highly unique voices, and even while hating Tiffany I couldn’t help but secretly like her.
What I like most about this author’s work generally is their ability to get inside their characters’ heads and take them on a roller coaster of ups and downs. There are light times and dark times, sometimes incredibly dark. Warning, if you read this book you may very well cry, yell at the characters or hold your breath.
