“In that moment, I stopped caring about right and wrong.”
The only thing that stood between us were the boundaries set by others, by society, by our parents. But together we could knock them down. Together, we could find freedom and live life on our own terms. Screw the rest of the world. He was all that mattered. He was the air that I breathed.
It’s recommended that you read Breathless, book three in the standalone series The Game Series, before you sink your teeth into River and Reese’s prequel.
REVIEW:
I’ve been craving the story of River and Reese from the very first page of the previous book, Breathless. Their close relationship is alluded to, and we even get to see some of it in that story, but just enough to really pique the curiosity. In this short prequel to that story, we learn about how the relationship these two brothers have shared, how it all came about and what led to the current situation.
This mainly shows us their lives as young adults prior to their time in the military. As much as I enjoyed learning about the beginning, I was left longing to see how the rest played out until we met them in Breathless. How did they manage keeping things under wraps in the military? How did River overcome his inability to sleep alone through that time? How did they expand on their kinks to what they are when we meet them, etc.
What we do get is quality Cara Dee and deliciously taboo sexiness, but I fully admit to not being sated. She touches on the blossoming kinks but doesn’t go into much depth in that regard. These guys are youngsters when this story begins, so there is a bit of exploring and testing the waters which I always enjoy. All in all, it was a much appreciated addition to fill in the blanks on these guys and I’m sure hoping we get to see more of them in future stories. I’m not sure if there are any others planned in this series, but they will defintely be on my to read list should they occur.
