You put out your first self published title this year. Can you tell us the pros and cons that you experienced with the process.
Self publishing for the first time was an eye opening experience and it had some good things and some challenges. First the good side. I had full control over covers, release dates, and pricing… well sort of. With pricing there were parameters with Amazon that I had to figure out. Everything was within my control and when it came time for payment, all the money belongs to me. That also means that I had to pay for everything including my covers and editing.
Moving forward I have more to learn. I want to create a print version of the two stories. If I decide to expand where my stories are sold, then I’ll need to learn their systems and requirements for publication. These are things a publisher always handled for me before. I do think I will continue to self-publish some stories because I enjoy it, but I doubt I will go to that exclusively.
