BLURB:
When Deputy Nick Senaster chastises a bunch of college kids at a bar, he doesn’t think anything of it, even if their leader is gorgeous. The guy is too young and way too cocky, and soon Nick has an emergency foster placement to focus on. His first job is ensuring ten-year-old Ethan knows someone cares for him. But Nick doesn’t realize Ethan is a package deal.
When Alexander finds out his abusive stepfather, Dieter, has lost custody of his half-brother, he’s torn between relief and dread. Alexander can’t get custody until he can provide a home for his tiny family. In the meantime, at least Ethan’s foster father will let Alexander visit.
So of course the man turns out to be the cute but dour cop who gave Alexander a hard time.
Soon Nick and Alexander discover they misjudged each other. Nick is more than an authoritarian automaton, and Alexander has a drive and a maturity that belie their first meeting. But between a campaign of intimidation from Dieter, their own insecurities, and the logistics of dating with Ethan’s fragile sense of stability hanging in the balance, they have their work cut out for them if they want to build a future.
REVIEW:
Deputy Nick Senaster is a very busy but lonely guy. Nick’s at his favorite bar for a beer and dinner when he’s disturbed by a rowdy group of young men. After having words with the men about breaking things and being nuisances not to mention being oddly attracted to their designated driver Nick is feeling more alone than ever.
Alexander has just finished his law degree at college, working as a law clerk, studying for the bar exam and trying to keep his younger brother safe from his stepfather Dieter. The only thing Alexander is focused on is passing the bar exam so he will be able to adopt Ethan until Ethan is removed from his father and put into the foster system.
Nick gets a call about fostering a young boy who has been removed from his father due to severe negligence and abuse. Nick is surprised but doesn’t hesitate to say yes. It takes quite a while before Ethan is able to trust Nick enough to tell him he’s a diabetic and needs to prick his finger and inject his insulin every day. Nick happily tells Ethan that not only was he a foster child as well but he too has diabetes. Nick gets a request to allow Ethan’s brother to visit and of course he says yes.
When Alexander arrives they both realize they’ve met at the bar previously and not in a good way. They get over their initial angst and decide to be civil for Ethan’s sake. It soon turns into much more than that and then they have to fight against Ethan’s father trying to get Ethan returned to him.
Nick and Alexander are busily falling in love, working long hours and raising Ethan. Ethan is trying to decide if their little family is going to last and if he can trust Alexander and Nick with the horrific truth of everything he went through at the hands of the one person who was supposed to love him forever. Don’t pass this one up! You won’t be disappointed.
