BLURB:
After playing his part in Operation Perth in Afghanistan, former Australian Special Forces Commando Cade Kelly was officially declared dead. Recruited by Rock and Grif to join their elite team of Black Ops Operators, The Ghost Protectors, he has built a new life for himself as the team’s top intel analyst. A spur of the moment decision to spend his down time in Brazil lands him in the middle of a cartel revenge war. Cade has lived and died by the gun before, he’s not afraid of war. But the man he rescues, that man, makes him wish for the one thing he swore he would never have again—love.
Dragged into his father’s cartel world of drugs, blood, and money, for most of his life, Felipe *Rio* Oseguera González has been looking for a way out. He had it beaten into him to never trust a cop—even if you are paying him. But with his life on the line, the only one he can trust is the badass blond commando with the big ass guns. Rio knows better than anyone that freedom isn’t free, it always demands it’s price in blood. Even so, he’s grabbing this opportunity with both hands and if he has his way, he might just persuade this ghost that sometimes the dead can have a happy ever after too.
Death and vengeance may make them run… but can love get them out of this war alive?
REVIEW:
Terrorism has always been in play long before 9/11 happened. In every little act of violence that takes away the right of any person and begets death is a terrorist act. We can give it other names like destruction, crime, human rights violation, discrimination, and such, it still is a form of terrorism. We may never get rid of it for as long as we live but there are forces in the dark that are trying to stop it, albeit using violence as one way to stop it but also using other forms like modern warfare in the form of cyber security, special operations and missions, etc. Somehow, these forces have prevented more bloodshed and destruction.
Cade was recruited to The Ghost Protectors when he was presumed dead in an operation in Afghanistan, where he also lost the love of his life, Johnno. Reborn as Cade and given a new purpose, that of destroying those who have been terrorizing a lot of people from different parts of the world but especially those who deals with human, drugs and arms trafficking. Those people who have no qualms killing thousands of people just to make themselves rich and powerful. Those without regard for human life. And it has become his life for the past 14 years, allowing him to forget what he has lost himself, sometimes.
Rio is the bastard son of a terrorist. He doesn’t want to be a part of his father’s life but when he was forcibly taken from his house in Mexico where he lived with his mother and grandparents, he didn’t have a choice but to follow what he was told. But underneath all that he vowed to let them all pay, especially when he learned that his “so-called” father had his mother and grandparents killed by the Mexican cartel head El Mencho. He became an asset and started feeding intel to the CIA and DEA. He was supposed to meet a CIA Agent in Brazil when he met Cade. But now he has been left in the wind, no one was answering his email requesting for extraction.
Now, how do you supposed these two people on opposite sides of the law find something in common? Well, not really on the opposite side of the law but more or less, operating opposite each other. Sometimes we underestimate attraction, love and fate! Sometimes we underestimate how our hearts work. These two men had an explosive attraction from the moment they met, and although they have accepted that maybe it wasn’t meant to be after a colossal fiasco in Brazil, fate intervened.
These kinds of stories and tropes are my waterloo, I just fall head-over-heels in love with it. Cade and Rio each have their way of preserving their hearts because they had been burned but somehow being with each other is curing that. They are both happy and at peace, most of the time, when they are together. And it is always great to see the boys altogether during missions and joint missions. Ms. Annabella Stone’s boys are lovable! If you have not started reading her books, I suggest you start now.
