He was only there for a business deal…
A couple of days…that was all it was supposed to take for property developer Roman Blackwell to decide if the strip of land just south of Dare, Montana would be the perfect spot for his next luxury resort. He wasn’t interested in repairing his frayed relationship with his half-brother who’d moved to the small town a few months earlier and he definitely wasn’t interested in doing anything more than scratching an itch when he checked out the gay club near his hotel. But when his plans for a quick hook-up are waylaid after he steps in to save a young man being brutalized, Roman finds himself building an emotional connection he never saw coming.
One bad decision changed everything…
College student Hunter Greene has spent 18 months trying to forget the one night he gave in to temptation and made a decision to hide one lie by telling another. But the guilt of knowing he shattered another young man’s life to protect his own secret shame is slowly destroying him and he knows that soon even his spiral into a dangerous pattern of self-destructive behavior won’t be enough to keep his entire world from imploding. But the last thing he’s looking for is someone to save him.
But fate works in mysterious ways…
Forced to return to the town he grew up in, the last person Hunter expects to run into is the mysterious savior who changed everything with one soul shattering kiss. While he can’t deny his attraction to Roman, Hunter knows that he’ll never be free to act on it and once Roman discovers the terrible secret he’s hiding, it won’t matter anyway.
Because some things just can’t be forgiven…
REVIEW:
This is one of the most “high-angst” stories of Ms. Sloane Kennedy that I have ever read. It made me cry, rant at all the injustices in this world, curse all those people who think they can just get away with hurting people, physically and mentally! But it is also full of love and forgiveness.
Self-loathing can be very destructive, especially when you think that the only redemption you have for what you have done in the past is to hurt yourself too. Hunter Greene did something unspeakable on the night after his graduation and it changed not only his life but that of the person he inflicted the harm to. He had been punishing himself for it ever since.
Roman’s mother died when he was 10 years old, he was then brought to his father’s house to live with his legitimate family, with his wife and his older son. His life forever changed since then. But not being seen has taken its toll on him. He has become relentless in his pursuit of success. He thinks that if he could beat and join them in their status, they will be force to acknowledge him in their society because they cannot afford not to, with him being one of the richest property developer in the country.
Meeting Hunter Greene changes Roman’s life, but he couldn’t regret it because in the very short time he has known the young man, Hunter has become someone very important to Roman. Learning about what happened in Hunter’s past made him admire the young man for the strength he has to be able to go through it.
Roman wants Hunter more and more as he gets to know the young man, he wants to take care of him and to make sure he doesn’t get hurt again. Hunter has been going through the motions of living. He seeks out the punishments he thinks he deserves for what he did. He intentionally hurts himself to numb the pain and the memories. His mind is in chaos all the time. But meeting Roman and being cared for by him has become something of an anchor for Hunter, slowly he wants to care for himself, he wants to live his own life on his own terms. For as long as Roman is by his side, he knows he’ll always try his best. He made Roman promised to accept his good and bad sides.
A gut-wrenching story of two people who have hurt deeply for a long time. Two people who can help each other heal by being with each other, falling in love and accepting of who they truly are. I love Hunter with his pain, vulnerability and innocence. Roman’s chivalry is something unique, you don’t see it often nowadays. They are truly meant for each other, they complete each other. Seeing them being there for each other, giving one another what the other needs is something fated couples do. It doesn’t really matter what ages you are in, love is love!
