Austin never realized he was painting his life with shades of gray, until Keaton came along and injected a rainbow of color.
Keaton is a tornado of chaos and paint, which turns out to be more exciting than I ever would’ve imagined. I love my organized, predictable life…or at least I thought I did. But what started as a casual hookup is slowly becoming so much more, and I find myself loving the beautiful mess more than I expected.
Can two people so different really make it work once feelings get involved?
REVIEW:
2020 has proven to be one of the worst years ever in all our lives, I think we are all wishing for normalcy to come back, before COVID and all. I am sure we are also wishing for the mundane day-to-day activities before all the outbreak and all the other “ugliness” happened. Boring and mundane would be so good right now. So when one says “boring” to describe a person, does it mean that that person is boring or does it mean that that person just wants to protect himself from being hurt or taken advantage of? Although despite of one being boring, bad things still happen no matter what you do. You still get hurt and you still get taken advantage of. Much like us all over the world right now.
Painted Lace is a story of total opposites who attract each other at first meeting/hookup, although deep down they are just two alike souls looking for that special person who will accept them for who they authentically are, not wishing them to change at all.
Austin likes order. He believes in planning ahead and doing things with purpose. His ex-boyfriend called him “boring” because of the way he is, broke up with him a few minutes after their graduation in college. He told Austin that he was only good for in-between classes but that nothing more can come out of it. And they were together for three years!
Keaton is free-spirited, an artist. He believes that life should be live the way YOU want to live it. He doesn’t want to be tied down with a 9-5 job in order to earn money to buy stuff that he doesn’t really need in the grand scheme of things. He does several jobs when he needs the money for food and rent. He bartends, a date-for-hire, poses nude and paints. He paints what he feels. Whenever he needs company, he hooks up. He doesn’t go into relationships, because then there are expectations. And he thinks he is bad with expectations.
Now, how can these two totally-opposite personalities have such great chemistry? When they leave their hang-ups at the door, they just mesh perfectly. They complement each other. They may look like total opposites outside but when it comes to what really matters, they are perfect for each other.
Ms. K.M. Neuhold has created characters who can be “boring,” organized, messy and chaotic but who are truly unique and endearing that you can’t help but fall in love with them. Painted Lace has these qualities exactly!
