ART IMITATES LIFE
Seven feet tall, Carlos Fernandez is a famous artist who’s been in self-imposed exile. His size, and the scar around his neck from a garrote attempt, has him looking so scary people stare, make rude remarks, or challenge him to fights.
He decides to move to LA to live near his brother at whose wedding he meets Clay Everett, an LAPD officer with hyper-protective instincts.
What starts as a shaky friendship turns into something more. Carlos works at coming out of his shell and Clay is surprised to learn he has the capacity to love deeply.
REVIEW:
I have been in love with this series from the start. The characters are so real and the things they go through just put you through such an emotional roller coaster. And this one is no different. I need to warn you. There are possible triggers in this. Carlos goes through some stuff that affects his life in drastic ways. I don’t want to go into too much detail and give it away but it can have an effect so just giving fair warning.
Carlos has quickly become one of my favorites. The saying that you should never judge a book by it’s cover has never been more true. He is one of those and all people do is see him and judge him and it breaks my heart. Especially after all he’s been through. But what I love about this story, is even with Clay being a twit at first and hurting Carlos’s feelings, Clay began to see real quick the real Carlos and why he needed help at times. He also saw the man underneath, the heart and soul of him and was immediately enraptured. He didn’t care if he had to go up against Carlos’s brother, Miguel, in order to let Carlos breathe. He would do whatever it took to keep that man safe and cared for. It was his highest priority now. And one he didn’t take lightly. And I loved it so so much. Because even though Carlos was an ‘independent’ person, he still needed help. And it became clear as the book went on.
He’s so special, you can’t help but fall in love with every part of him. The words ‘gentle giant’ have never been more appropriate and I’m glad Clay was smart enough to see it.
