When supernatural secrets collide, it’ll take more than coffee to brew the perfect love.
When Ky Hernández bonded with his familiar, Zuri, his life changed forever. Their connection turned him into a practicing witch and led him to his calling as a medimagical professional. However, it totally tanked his love life—what guy would settle for eternal second place behind a parrot? So Ky keeps his witchy nature under wraps and sticks to hookups with humans, which can never go anywhere. But the mouthwatering barista at the coffee shop next door makes him thirst for more than a caffeine fix.
The charms Ewan Jones uses to appear human are inconvenient, disorienting, and . . . necessary. Ewan and his siblings are achubyddion, metaphysical healers whose powers are coveted by unscrupulous supernatural beings. And let’s face it: all supes are unscrupulous, given the right incentive. He’s grateful for the protections that hide his little family, and for the barista job that keeps them housed and fed. He’s just so lonely. And his regular, Ky, the super-hot, commitment-averse EMT, seems like the perfect candidate for a one-night shot at intimacy. After all, humans are no threat.
It takes a clumsy coffee shop intern, a mysterious werewolf epidemic, and one snarky parrot to unravel their pasts—and give them a chance at a future.
REVIEW:
I absolutely love this book and this series. The plot of the story is so good, you don’t want to put it down, and I love how the author intertwines other characters from other series together. It’s so fun to watch them all discover each other and find out their histories and family. And know in the end, what happened to them doesn’t have to affect the rest of their lives.
One of the funniest parts of this story was Ky’s familiar, Zuri. That parrot is definitely not ‘stupid’, which she insists on calling Ky. It’s hilarious. But it’s more than that. She is just this little smart alec African Grey that will sass you to death and it just adds so much more to the story.
The harder part of this story was Ewan and his little family. Having gone through some horrifying things, it’s left one of them not even talking. And all of them in hiding. And for Ewan, for a while, it was enough, until someone got hurt and he knew if he didn’t do something, the young man would die. And Ewan couldn’t live with that, whether people found out about him or not. And it spoke to me. It shows that Ewan may live in fear, but he knows when to do the right thing. And he knows when it’s time to step up and overcome the fears of his life. He shows strength and courage, when he knows he could possibly be at death’s door. And that’s what I love so much about these books. These characters, old and new, are all going against the flow and old traditions, to do what is the right thing. To fix what was wrong and make it right. To fight for equality for everyone.
But it’s also the chemistry between so many. Where you look at them and think, how could they possibly get along, the author just makes it work. And it syncs perfectly. I love it. I’ve been in love with these series from the start and they just keep getting better. I hope there will be more to come from these guys. There’s a little boy I want to see more of down the road.
