BLURB:
Undercover sheriff’s deputy Evan Whittaker is close to infiltrating a vicious local gang. He just needs to find an opening. Instead, he finds Wes Douglas, a web designer who is raising his irresponsible brother’s son. Wes agrees to help with a stakeout, but he pays the price when his home is destroyed in a shootout.
Evan’s always been a loner, but when he invites Wes into his home, living together feels right, and the two men only grow closer as they adapt to each other’s lives and rhythms. A future as a family looks brighter by the day, but all of that could collapse when Wes’s brother—and his connection to the drug dealers—crashes into the life they’re carefully building.
REVIEW:
Evan Whittaker is a sheriff’s deputy. For the last two years Evan’s been working undercover trying to take down a local drug gang except they’re always one step ahead of him. Whilst taking a walk one day trying to find a way to get one step ahead of the gang for a change Evan unwittingly comes across the perfect way into the gang!
Whilst walking his nephew Greyson Wes Douglas is accosted by a group of young men, they were bullying him just as they did when they were in school! Evan sees what’s happening and comes to Wes’s rescue. They’re having dinner at the diner when Evan discovers just who Wes is and that Wes could be his way into the drug gang. As Evan is discussing exactly what he’s up against trying to bring down the gang Wes finds out there are two rival drug gangs fighting for the same territory. Wes’s brother Trey is a member of the gang and when he hears what is going on and what his brother has got himself involved in Wes decides to help Evan infiltrate the gang by introducing Evan to Trey.
Wes has become his Greyson’s guardian as his brother Trey has no interest in being a father. Greyson’s mother dumped him at their house one day and simply disappeared. Wes wants to adopt Greyson, but Trey has discovered it’s the perfect thing to have as insurance to ensure Wes does what he wants him to do. Wes does whatever he has to do as Greyson has become his life.
Things become very scary when there’s a shootout at their house and the house is destroyed as a result of the conflict. Evan insists Wes and Greyson move in with him and this is when the mutual attraction between them takes off. Wes gets to see firsthand what it’s like living with a cop and Evan gets to see what’s involved with raising a nearly one-year old child whilst working crazy hours as a deputy.
Once again Andrew has written a wonderful story filled with amazing characters. I especially love the way the characters from previous books are always integrated into the current story. Don’t pass this one up! You won’t be disappointed.
