The guitarist and the geek…
Bobby J-
What can I say? I’m a man of many tastes. I know what I like, and I’m not afraid to go for it. And I like the adorable geek from the bar. A lot. He’s smart and sassy…and he doesn’t seem to know or care that I’m in a hot up-and-coming band. However, I just found out he’s the new intern at Scratch Records. Uh-oh, this could get tricky.
Cody-
Confession…I’ve flubbed my mission. My quest is to research cool things and interesting people before I start my job as aerospace analyst—not fall for a rock star. My internship won’t last long if I can’t control this infatuation. Bobby J might look like a bear, but he’s fun and sweet and…oh boy, I think I’m in over my head. But maybe that’s not such a bad thing. After all, you’ve got to start somewhere.
REVIEW:
The boys from the bands are back! Bobby J, the lead guitarist of one of the bands under Scratch records is a bit of a player. He likes to meet many people, but when a stranger in the corner of a bar catches his eye, he’s in for more than he expected. While Cody is trying to experience life after grad school, he’s throwing himself into different activities, mostly through observation. But suddenly he’s in the middle of his own experiment and what a ride!
As we’ve gotten to know the various band members that are a part of the newly created Scratch records, their lives are growing and they are settling down. Not the thing you would expect from rock stars, but life is taking them all by surprise. Though this is a shorter novel, Hayes is able to paint the characters with a strong depth that makes you feel for both of the main leads. We’ve gotten to know a little about Bobby J from past books but haven’t really focused on him. He’s much more than everyone thinks, and he likes it that way. Can someone break through his persona?
This low angst story is just what we need right now. People getting to know each other in unexpected ways. We get a glimpse back to other couples from prior books, but you don’t need to have read them to enjoy this story. Of course, the books are so good I’d recommend you read through the whole series. They all have such different perspectives as the situations for each are so very different. At the core, this is a story about finding yourself and how you fit in the world. The two main characters are just getting to the point of really be comfortable with themselves and then with each other. There’s some growing pains but they are ultimately trying to fall for each other, while holding back at the same time. This tension creates for a fun adventure as they find out more about each other. A great read, I always look forward to more of Hayes writing.
