Damon Thorne, former CIA operative, is now living with Jude Chenoweth, his new boyfriend. The sexy graphic designer is handsome as hell and Damon can’t get enough of him. Unfortunately, his life as a “cleaner” always seems to get in the way. At least Jude is at his side these days, helping out on an odd job here or there.
Jude finds his new life with Damon thrilling. If it’s not rescuing a teen from child traffickers, it’s stealing adult toys from a notorious sex club. While Jude struggles to stay out of the limelight, Damon battles with his own demons, trying to reconcile a heartbreaking past.
A mandatory trip to New York turns into a weekend on the Harlem blues scene and a party with New York high society, ending in near disaster. To top it all off, a deliberate poisoning, a pissed off “force of nature” in stilettos, and a half-blind money launderer confirm there’s trouble brewing and only the beginning of their problems.
When an old acquaintance turns up with a tale of betrayal and a warning of imminent danger, Jude and Damon go on the offense. Fortunately for the two men, they unexpectedly have a team of warriors at their backs.
Join Damon and Jude for one thrill ride after another in the sequel to Clean Up on Aisle Mine.
REVIEW:
I was extremely excited to read this second book in the Spy Like Me series. As this is the second book in the series, it really should not be read as a standalone. I loved the worldbuilding and her character development in this series. The plot twists and turns left you wondering who the guys could trust. In the end not everything is as it appears.
This book does pick up, sort of, where we left Damon and Jude in the first book. They are establishing not only their working relationship, but their personal relationship as well. I had an extremely hard time getting into the story. There was so much focus on Damon and Jude, that I felt the plot themes that carried over from book one, got lost. The major plot line, for me, finally reappeared halfway through the book. At this point, I became more engaged with Damon and Jude’s adventures. We follow Damon and Jude on cases to recover a sex toy from a sex club to high society charity events in New York. All the while, they find time to have fun sexy times away from the hustle and bustle of the real world. The best part was when the storyline really picked up at the halfway mark, as one of the main characters life is placed in jeopardy and they start to unravel the mystery of the microdot – from the first book. We learn more about Jude’s father, the Senator and we learn more about Damon’s late wife and child. We learn more about Damon’s path to being a cleaner and his handler and co-workers. Jude ventures into more creative places with his designs and becomes and asset in helping Damon do his job. As the intrigue mounts, I am always one to try and figure out how the story is going to end. What I can tell you without spoiling the book is, I did not see that ending coming. I enjoyed how all the loose ends were tied up by the end of the book and sometimes, the bad guys really do get what they deserve.
Will Damon and Jude survive the trouble brewing? Will the Senator finally understand Jude? Who can Damon and Jude trust? Well, to find out the answers to these questions and many more of the intrigues, please pick up a copy of this book and enjoy Damon and Jude’s journey.
