In the human world, shifters are a myth.
In the shifter world, mates are a myth too. So how can tiger shifter Dellan Carson have two of them?
Dellan has been trapped in his shifted form for so long, he’s almost forgotten how it feels to walk on two legs. Then photojournalist Rael Parton comes to interview the big-pharma CEO who holds Dellan captive in a glass-fronted cage in his office, and Dellan’s world is rocked to its core.
When lion shifter Rael finds his newfound mate locked in shifted form, he’s shocked but determined to free him from his prison… and that means he needs help.
Enter ex-military consultant and bear shifter Horvan Kojik. Horvan is the perfect guy to rescue Dellan. But mates? He’s never imagined settling down with one guy, let alone two.
Rescuing Dellan and helping him to regain his humanity is only the start. The three lovers have dark secrets to uncover and even darker forces to overcome….
REVIEW:
There is a lot to like about this book. Dellan, Rael and Horvan to be specific.
Dellan is trapped in more ways than one and he’s running out of time to regain his humanity.
Rael is a wanderer who has his world rocked the moment he sees Dellan. When he goes looking for help to rescue Dellan, Rael’s world becomes even more complicated when Horvan feels like one more surprising piece to the puzzle that his life has become.
I found it very easy to connect with all of these sweet, sexy and protective shifters. I love shifter stories. The fated-mate trope gives my brain a reason to ignore the fact that it all starts up so quickly and gets so intense right from the beginning.
But these guys are not the only reason to love this story. Horvan’s teammates, including Crank, Roadkill and Hashtag, quickly became some of my favorite side characters in a long time. Devoted, quick-witted and funny as heck, they leave you wishing you had friends as awesome as they are.
The story is pretty good. Gives you just enough twists and turns to keep you interested without leading you in too many circles. It wasn’t until I was almost done that I realized that it was gonna end with more questions than answers and man do I hate that! I prefer series that wrap up a storyline with each book because I’m truly very impatient. But just to be contrary, I would have liked a little more story building and anticipation to have built up as Dellan found his way back to humanity. It would have made the payoff that much sweeter.
Of course, I will be drumming my fingers on the table while waiting for book two to come out.
As always, K.C. Wells does a great job at character development and she definitely knows how to sex things up, without making the sex the most important part of the book. I like a little sex in story, not the other way around. I like how the guys actually talk about their problems, like grown ups. It makes them so much easier to adore.
If you like shifter stories…and mysteries…then this is the story for you. Ms. Wells, I will be looking forward to seeing where these guys end up.
