When Deputy Sheriff Ryan Neely and his K9 partner Mega (in reality his lover Shane di Lupo) are in a car accident, Ryan begins to worry that Shane’s brother and Alpha will try to reclaim him again. He asks Shane’s sister-in-law Danae for advice and she suggests they get married. Danae promises to throw them the perfect wedding. When Lee learns that Ryan is marrying Shane, he’s heartbroken. Eventually, Lee begins to recover and offers his family’s cabin by Tuttle Creek for their honeymoon. Unfortunately, there are visitors from their pasts that make their honeymoon not so romantic.
REVIEW:
Ryan and Shane (and Mega) are happily living their lives back in Ryan’s apartment and at their jobs at the Sheriff’s department. After an accident, Ryan’s friend Lee comes to their rescue again 🙂 Lee would really like to date Ryan and I think Lee’s mother would like that even more! Ryan is still worried about someone taking Shane away from him though – namely Amleto, Shane’s alpha and brother. After talking to Danae, Amleto’s mate, they decide the best course if for them to marry to keep Shane safe. Lee is sad to know that Ryan is getting married, but he does back off.
Danae proves to be a more than competent wedding planner 🙂 Shane and Ryan get married in a beautiful ceremony. They have a nice wedding dinner and a wonderful wedding night. A couple weeks afterwards, they have a little reception back home. Lee offers his parents’ cabin for a belated honeymoon. Shane and Ryan are excited to have some time away and so they eagerly accept.
The cabin is perfect. The lake is beautiful and so is the weather. Shane and Ryan enjoy the time together and the fresh air and outdoors. But Shane finds a scent that he recognizes as “wrong” and it start him worrying. He then recognizes someone else and he is afraid and goes into hiding. Although Ryan is wary, he thinks he’s on top of the situation. But things go a bit sideways and their honeymoon goes off the rails in a bad way 🙁
Well I wanted to find out what was coming next for Ryan and Shane, but to be honest, this story didn’t add a lot to the first one. I still struggle a little with the relationship between Shane and Ryan since their continues to be a significant imbalance. Shane is coming into his own little by little, but he is still so dependent on Ryan. I actually really like Lee, Ryan’s friend and co-worker. I liked seeing Danae in this one, but would have appreciated more with the pack and more insight into this world. While some prior nemeses are dealt with, it still leaves Shane and Ryan in their world without many friends or support. I was also a bit disappointed with the rather abrupt ending. I don’t know if there will be more to this story or not. I hope if there are more books, they focus on the growth of the relationship and Shane’s individual development.
