BLURB:
Dolan versus Everett. Snarky meets stoic.
Dolan Masters loathes many things: root canals, splinters in his fingers, and people putting toilet paper on the roll wrong – loose end over the top, please. But the one thing he hates more than anything else is Everett freaking Henson.
Everett Henson spends more time with animals than people, his best friend, Eli, being the exception. The downside of that friendship means crossing paths with Dolan Masters; the man who rubs Everett wrong in every way possible.
But a baby changes everything.
With both men believing they deserve the honor of being the godfather to their best friend’s baby, the only way to settle things is through a competition. Will there be bloodshed, or will these two realize the truth staring them in the face?
May the best godfather win.
REVIEW:
Dolan and Everett are the best friends of Tasha and Eli respectively. They love their best friends, but each other? Not so much,. But when they are invited to a dinner where Eli and Tasha share the news of their impending parenthood, both men assume that they will be named godfather. Since they are already barely on speaking terms, this latest conflict throws things over the top. So Tasha determines that there will be a competition to determine who will be named godfather.
As Dolan and Everett arrive for their first challenge, it’s apparent that all their preparations are for naught as Tasha has devised a prescribed set of rules that neither is prepared for. The contest goes wrong in many many ways. While they work on respective projects, they do have some laughs – mostly at each other’s expense, but they are both really annoyed when the contest is judged.
As the second task come up, both Dolan and Everett are again unprepared as Tasha has some twists for them. Eli is basically along for the entertainment value of these contests 😉 And after two contests, they are tied. So a third contest has to be devised. Neither men is prepared for this one – particularly as it involves other people’s children 😀
As the contests go on however, Dolan finds a sick and injured dog. Since Everett is a vet, he immediately takes him to Everett’s office. The poor pup needs some vet care and eventually then is able to go home with Dolan who decides he can’t just take him to a shelter. So Lucky has a new home and Everett is most helpful in getting Dolan outfitted as a new pet owner. They end up spending more unplanned time together.
While the godfather decision is still pending, Tasha sets them a new task of planning her baby shower. This forces Everett and Dolan together more and more. And it turns out that they really have more in common than they ever thought. And the underlying sexual tension is going to have to be resolved one way or another 😉
So I wanted to like this even more than I did. But this is a case of it’s me, not you. The issue for me was the narration. It just didn’t work so much for me. I am extremely picky with narrators and frankly there are only a handful that I actually enjoy. Unfortunately the narration here didn’t add to the story for me. While the story was fun, funny, cute, engaging, etc., I felt like the narration did not add to my enjoyment and instead, and I stress this was for me, it kind of detracted from the story a bit. For those who are fans of these narrators, this may very well not be the case for you. So take this opinion FWIW 😉 I enjoyed the story a lot. The incorrect assumptions about who Delila and Seth are at the beginning are pretty amusing – particularly Delila 🙂 Seth and Eli and Tasha and Sandy were well-written supporting characters. They of course had more insight into Dolan and Everett’s relationship than the guys themselves. The story really is a case of waiting for these guys to get out of their own way and see what’s really in front of them. They were cute together when they stopped fighting so hard not to like each other. In the end, I enjoyed the story arc and the outcome – for all parties. Recommended.
