There’s one thing I need in my life right now and one thing only — a new job.
So I’m stoked when I land a dream gig as a bodyguard for a rock star.
But there’s definitely one thing I do not need at all — a complication.
Like being wildly attracted to the guy who just hired me.
So I vow to do everything I can to deny the intense attraction for the man I’m sworn to protect.
All I have to do is ignore it. Eventually it’ll go away, right?
But that’s not what happens one night after a concert…
REVIEW:
Lauren Blakely has got to stop with these cover models. I can’t concentrate. It’s hard to get anything done when you keep stopping to glance at the cover once again. Anyway, this is a cliffhanger … a sex cliffhanger, that is. Talk about unresolved sexual tension – this is the hottest book I’ve ever read that has no sexual content in it! That’s an impressive feat for an author. When they finally hook-up in the next book they’re going to set the sheets on fire.
Maybe This Time is a little gem of a surprise release from Lauren Blakely, a free prequel to One Time Only. It’s the perfect antidote for the crush of current political and pandemic stress. It’s the very definition of escapism.
Mega-star Stone Zenith is more than a rock god. He’s a respected employer, loyal friend and brother, philanthropist, and all around good guy. He enjoys good, clean fun, and down and dirty fun. When he’s in need of a new evening bodyguard, super fit, intelligent, conscientious Jackson Pearce applies for the job. Did I mention he’s scorching hot? Yeah, that. Stone and Jackson are immediately and unexpectedly attracted to each other. They also have an instant rapport – from the moment they meet, before Jackson’s interview, even – bantering back and forth with their deadpan humor overlaying a simmering sexual energy.
As the story unfolds, each man silently acknowledges his growing attraction and the irresistible pull to the other, all while wishing his inconvenient feelings would dissipate. They can’t hook-up, they’re employer and employee, plus Jackson can’t afford to break his concentration in keeping Stone safe. He’s already distracted, though, just looking at Stone and his sexy tats.
My story is that I love my family, I love my job, and I can’t risk losing it. My story is that I’m wildly attracted to my boss. My story is that four months working with him hasn’t dampened this attraction. It’s only intensified it.
They continue to tease each other, their words laden with flirtatious overtones, as they travel to European, Asian, and North American cities on Stone’s world tour. This story is about more than the rising heat, though. They have fun together. Blakely has created a lovely friendship between these men, which should serve as a solid foundation for their relationship in the next book.
Maybe This Time is an optional introduction to how Stone and Jackson meet. Having read One Time Only, I highly recommend reading this novella first. It’s not necessary, but it’s a quick, fun read that enhances the reading experience of One Time Only a great deal. Look for that book to release on November 18, 2020, and my own review the same day.
