They say joining the Army changes a man…too bad Chris never got the memo.
Sure, his battle-sculpted body and brooding blue eyes are hotter than asphalt in summer, but he’s still every bit the jerk he was before leaving their small town for the military years ago. Pompous. Arrogant. Cocky as hell…and constantly on Warren’s mind.
It should be easy to ignore him. Straight single dads aren’t worth pining over, and straight a–holes even less. If only Warren could stop dreaming about the way it would feel if Chris were to grab him by the hair, rake his teeth down his neck, and – well, you get the point.
The problem is, Warren’s fantasies aren’t likely to dry up, because something about Chris did change while he was away…and the glint of desire in his eyes when he argues with Warren now? There’s nothing straight about that.
During the Flight is the hot and hilarious third book in the Small Town Hearts series, but no knowledge of previous books is needed to fall in love with this one.
REVIEW:
I’ve enjoyed the previous books in this series so when During the Flight was published I couldn’t wait to listen to it.
Sadly, this book wasn’t for me. It bored be if I’m going to be honest. If you’ve read my previous reviews you might already know that I’m not particularly fond of explicit and never-ending sex-scenes. They bore me and nothing loses my interest faster. My personal preference would frankly be fade to black. Now I know that many of you can’t get enough of it, the dirtier the better, and if so this book is definitely something you should check out.
Now, from my point of view it felt like the majority of the book was focused on sex in one way or another. If they weren’t having it, texting, talking or thinking about it, they were making plans for the next time to meet up. I never felt any real connection between the two, well there was certainly animosity in the beginning, but when that turned into something more is beyond me. So if steam is your cup of tea you are going to love this book.
When you listen to audio, pinpointing events (or writing down quotes) is a bit difficult. But in the second half, maybe around two thirds, things started to pick up for me. We saw more of their family, a bit of banter. It was sweet and it made me smile and I wanted much more of it. I loved seeing Warren and Chris spending time with mischievous and scheming Jack. I do think this kid was my favourite character in the story, followed by aunt Libby.
It’s note-worthy that each book in this series has been narrated by a different narrator. This book is narrated by Michael Dean. Now normally this many changes in narrator in a single series isn’t ideal, but with this series it works, each book is a standalone and follows a new couple and there is no cross-over between them. I do think that the main reason that I could finish this book was because of his narration.
