LENGTH: 7 hours and 3 minutes
RELEASE DATE: April 22, 2020
BLURB:
Reynard Drake, solitary cybersecurity expert and curator of the Drake family fortune, would rather be chucked in the midden than forced to bed an omega, but as the selected Amethyst candidate for the mating experiment, he has no other choice. Resigned to his unhappy fate, he takes solace in the fact that one thing will never change -his virtual rival, Magpie, will always be there to keep him on his toes, even if he has been strangely absent from the internet lately…
Diamond Disgrace Misha Vasiliev has a secret. By day he learns what it takes to warm a dragon’s bed, but at night he’s Magpie, renowned hacker and dark web service provider who steals from dragons in his spare time. His favorite target? Reynard Drake, whom he’s only ever seen in pictures, but whom Misha wants more than anyone else.
And now, with a faceless threat closing in on his cloister, quite possibly the only one capable of saving his life.
Magpie is a steamy omegaverse mpreg-ish romance set during the events of the Forbidden Desires series. It contains pretty things hidden where the sun don’t shine; a scandalous screenshot or two; plenty of laughs; its fair share of tense moments; and, of course, “Beagle!” For maximum enjoyment, Magpie is best listened as a companion piece to the Forbidden Desires series.
REVIEW:
Misha is a Diamond disgrace who is completely unhappy with his lot in life. He realizes at some point he’s going to be at the mercy of some dragon mate, but in the meantime, he amuses himself with hacking into dragon accounts using the codename Magpie to pad his own bankroll 🙂 His favorite adversary is Reynard Drake. He’s the only worthwhile foe since he actually does try to protect his (and his family’s) wealth. They have had a friendly rivalry for years. But when simultaneously Reynard is told he’s the lucky Drake that has to take part in his brother Everard and his mate Harrison’s experiment with Disgraces and Dragons and Magpie disappears, Reynard is thrown into a depression. He’s not taking care of himself and he’s not taking care of his home either.
Reynard is very unhappy about being selected for the Mate experiment. But when Misha arrives at his home, he’s quite shocked to learn that he is Magpie and that he’s managed to change the experiment so that he is paired with Reynard. Misha has gotten himself into some hot water and he’s had to make a fast escape and this is the only place he can think of to get him away from his cloister and under the protection of someone he knows. While Reynard is shocked at the audacity of Misha, he’s also intrigued. Misha seems to know all about him and his need and desires 😉 Turns out they are much better suited than they ever though.
While no one by Reynard and Misha know that the experiment has been manipulated, things start to get a little problematic when they don’t seem to be able to successfully mate. There is no mate bond. There is no clutch. That doesn’t stop them from working on it 😉 And in the meantime, Misha takes it upon himself to set Reynard’s household to rights as well. And when they finally accomplish what they set out to, it’s even more than anyone had dreamed of 😀
Unfortunately the bad guys that are after Misha are not giving up. But Misha has been trying to hold them off on his own. When it seems like he’s done what is needed, they are attacked. And it will take the whole family and allies to save Misha, Reynard and their clutch!
I still find this series to be so much fun! I honestly cannot wait for each new book to come out. This was no exception. The Drakes are such an interesting clan 😛 I loved Reynard. He’s so different from his brothers and his relationship with Misha is different as well. Misha is a spitfire! I loved his audacity. He’s so fierce in his will to save himself as well as Reynard and their children. I loved how did really care for Reynard beyond the bond. The fact that they had such a long association before actually meeting makes everything just that much more interesting. Reynard and Misha are so sweet together once they get over their initial surprises 😉 There are lots of funny moments and some sweet ones as well. The threat that appears is really dangerous and the climactic battle for the family was really well written. It was a roller coaster ride for sure! Once again Michael Ferraiuolo’s narration was brilliant. A lot of the Drakes reappear in this one and it’s fabulous to see them all again. I love Michael’s accents and he really brings this series to life. This is another fabulous book in this series. Recommended!
