BLURB:
When Benji saw Diego for the first time, he never expected to fall irrevocably and painfully in love with him.
It wasn’t something either of them could face, so he buried it. For ten long years.
Ten years during which he survived the pain of his own disastrous marriage and the heartbreak of watching Diego raise a child with another woman.
Through the heights of rock stardom and the depths of their band imploding, Benji’s heart always came back to Diego. To his best friend. His bandmate. His secret desire.
Now, enough is enough.
He knows Diego loves him too. He knows they could have it all, no holds barred, with every string attached — if only they can find the courage to bring their feelings into the spotlight.
It’s time to tackle the impossible: life-altering, world-shaking, totally inevitable love.
Impossible Things is the second book in the Star Shadow series and should be read in order.
REVIEW:
I enjoyed this book very much. It’s the second in the Star Shadow series and needs to be read in after book one because it follows on in story and time. That being said, this book is complete in and of itself and if you only intend to read one book then it could be either of them.
This book tells the story of Benji and Diago. While Caleb, Leo and Max are still around this is very much Benji and Diego’s story and goes off on a tangent following them on their journey to establish a career outside Star Shadow.
Benji has always had a gnawing doubt that nothing he ever did was good enough. Not even the phenomenal success of Star Shadow, both in its early run and its come-back was enough to satisfy the itch that just couldn’t be scratched. He eventually realises that what he needs is to achieve success for himself through his own hard work and no one elses, relying on no one but himself. Okay there’s Diego but he’s so much a part of Benji, he hardly counts as a separate person, and that’s even before their relationship begins.
The two men have been in love with each other for almost ten years. Both have, at some point in the past, given up on romance and married a woman, not to make each other jealous but because at that point they just needed desperately to have closure and move on. That didn’t happen.
Benji and Diago dance around a relationship just as much as Caleb and Leo did in book one and it’s sometimes painful to watch. On occasions, it’s hard to remember that these two have been dancing for a decade.
Impossible Things doesn’t deal with such heavy subject matter as book one, but it is every bit as real and fulfilling a read. The author continues to develop well rounded characters who are wholly consistent with who they were set up to be.
This one is a little easier to read and I was able to read it all in one go. I enjoyed every page and recommend it as a frustratingly convoluted love story that delivered in spades at the end.
