It isn’t long before Brody and Nash fall in love, but then a tragic accident shatters their cozy world, resetting Nash’s memory once again.
The “new” Nash Walker is a businessman with a bottom line, and he doesn’t care what or who gets stomped on. Waking up in a hospital bed after a hit-and-run with no idea where he’s been for the past six months is bad enough, but someone trying to kill him is even worse. Enter Brody Tyler, accidental bodyguard.
Brody’s determined to help Nash remember and bring back the man he loves. Nash thinks Brody’s a drop-dead gorgeous pain in the ass. If only he could remember….
REVIEW:
Okay, so first things first, to really enjoy this story you need to be wearing your “suspend all beliefs” glasses, because not much in this story is plausible. Come to think of it, I don’t know that any of it is plausible. But knowing that going into this book you might just enjoy this story for the entertainment it is supposed to be. I know I did – well parts of it.
I loved the first part of the book, it really hooked me, watching Nash and Brody fall in love and being happy, despite Nash not having a single clue about who he was or about the fresh scars on his body. They live and love in the moment, until one day when Nash doesn’t come home from an errand. And that’s when I started to get torn about this book. My heart broke for Brody, first for not knowing if the love of his life was alive or not, not knowing what happened to him. Only to find out that he’d regained some of his memories about his life – but in doing so, losing the memories of them, of him, and being in love. Painful isn’t the word for it. You could feel how gutted Brody felt and his desperation of getting to Nash’s side again, hoping that the memories would come back if he only saw Brody again.
But that’s not what happened. After a series of misunderstandings Brody finds himself employed as Nash’s bodyguard, and it’s the hardest thing he’d ever had to do. Being so close to the man he loved, but not recognising him was heartbreaking. And Nash…. Gah he was such an ass that I’d happily strangle him were he not fictional. So many times I actually wished for Brody to go home and lick his wounds and give it some time. Because that part of the book was brutal to the nth degree. I mean you need to fight for the ones you love, but at what point is enough just enough. It’s not okay to be used as the proverbial punching bag (not I the physical sense) just because.
Seeing this is an mm romance story, we all know that our main characters will end up together in the end. That’s more or less a guarantee when you pick up a romance – I mean we romance readers live for that happily ever after, or at the very least happy for now. So Brody and Nash do find their way back together, but I kind of wish Nash would actually have made some kinds of amends and not be forgiven so easily, for Brody to have a bit more self-reservation. Forgiving is one thing, but please make him work for that forgiveness – just a little bit.
This book was narrated by Sean Lenhart and he did a nice job performing it. I love how he put emphasis in his words, anchoring the words to the moments. I also enjoyed his accents. I wish they’d been kept up throughout, but they kind of came and went. Still it was a nice touch. And boy did he make you feel every harsh word directed at Brody… they hurt.
Unshakeable Faith might have a lot of similarities to a soap opera, but sometimes that’s just what you’re in the mood for.
