Laurence’s new lover is half his age. The problem? His relationship is about to make his life a lot more complicated….
Successful, sensible, and settled in his ways, single dad Laurence isn’t looking for love when he runs into the young man who sweeps him off his feet…and onto his knees. With an upcoming raise on the line and a son to care for, he can’t let an unconventional relationship jeopardize the future of his family. He’s a parent first and a lover second, and that’s the way it has to be.
Right?
The only thing Alex loves more than older men is being filthy with them. The problem? Sometimes, it backfires in the worst ways.
Up-and-coming painter Alex is broken in ways others can’t see, and he copes with the pain by drowning himself in experience – especially experienced men. But when he crosses paths with Laurence, he finds himself drawn down an avenue of life he’s sworn he’ll never visit again.
Men are meant to be disposable, and Laurence is only supposed to be a hookup…so why does Alex feel so safe whenever he’s around?
When a matter of concealed identity threatens Laurence and Alex’s bond, they have a choice – rise above the forces that seek to divide them and find happiness with each other, or let their problems grow too great to conquer.
The Problem is an 81,000-word contemporary omegaverse mpreg novel featuring a quirky group of single dads, the naughtiest lace panties you’ll ever hear about, and the gradual development of a relationship between a Daddy and his boy.
REVIEW:
Alex is looking for a hook up – that’s it. He doesn’t do relationships. He doesn’t do “love.” He doesn’t even usually share his name or much else. He’s had a really bad time of it in the past and he’s learned his lesson. He is only interested in older men – and he wants to use them before they use him, but in a one and done scenario. Except when he hooks up with Laurence at his exhibition opening, he’s not sure that once will be enough. Laurence inspires something in him, and he doesn’t really want to let it go when he gives Laurence a way to contact him much against his normal MO. And when Laurence does contact him, he can’t wait to see him again 🙂
Laurence is a settled middle age guy with a teenage son that he’s raised on his own. He’s a scientist with a good job that he’s worked hard for. He loves his son and his life, but he’s ready for something more. He’s part of an online chat group that calls themselves the Single Dad Support Group. They have been encouraging him to get his own life for some time. So one evening, he goes to the art exhibit opening without any expectations, but when he’s seduced by what turns out to be the artist, he’s captivated. Alex is the filthiest most demanding lover he’s had and he doesn’t really want to let that go. When he calls Alex, he really doesn’t know what to expect from the much younger man, but he’s excited when Alex agrees to meet him and go on a proper date 😀
Well Laurence and Alex’s proper date does not go to plan. And when they are interrupted, there is quite a lot of fallout for Laurence. And an unexpected surprise awaits him that he’s not at all certain he’s ready to deal with. But he needs to support Mathew, his son, who really really needs hm. So he knows he’s got to figure out a way to make all the parts of his life work.
Meanwhile, Alex has a little surprise of his own. And it turns out that Laurence and Alex’s lives are intertwined in MANY more ways that than they realize. As their relationship moves forward, they get a lot of shocking news – some of it good and some of it really really not good. There are unknown mutual friends, acquaintances, family and foes – all of whom play a big part of Alex and Laurence’s lives. But when things come to a head and there are lives and safety in the balance, everyone involved is ready to provide backup! And when things do finally settle down, Alex and Laurence can finally get on with their lives 🙂
This series is the first I’ve listened to from Piper Scott and I’m really liking it! Laurence is a really good guy. He does his best to be there for everyone who needs him. His son and Alex are his people and he’s going to do what it takes. Alex has been through a lot and he’s picked himself up from a bad place and with the support of his family and his best friend Gage, he’s forged a successful career for himself. He’s not looking to settle down – like at all. He’s not convinced that love is even real because he’s certainly never experienced it himself. But something about Laurence calls to him and he really wants to see where it goes. This is really a case of opposites attract. I’m not really into Daddy/boy kink, but these two are hot together. Alex gets what he wants – maybe more than he bargained for 😉 Laurence has a lot to juggle between work, Mathew and Alex, but he knows he’ll figure out a way. And he decides to let Mathew and Alex’s relationship take its own course – which turns out to be for the best. I don’t want to spoil some of the surprises, but it’s fun to watch the single dad group members figure out who each other are IRL and how their lives are becoming intertwined. I can’t wait for the next book 🙂 As usual, Michael Ferraiuolo is fabulous narrating this book. I loved his voice choices for Alex and Laurence, but also for Mathew and Gage and the rest of the large cast. Beautifully done. Honestly, I will listen to Michael reading a grocery list – and I have 😉 Recommended particularly for those who like opposites attract, non-shifter omegaverse stories with a twist and some kink 😛
