River lost his pack because he tired to be friendly with humans. Now he’s not sure he can trust them.
But River’s mate is half-human, and Josiah insists on working around humans every day. After what happened with his original pack, River is questioning every step he makes, and it’s causing conflict with his omega mate. Meanwhile, omegas continue to come down with life-threatening illness that are expected to be caused by a faction of humans who want to wipe out werewolves entirely. The pack is relying on Jax to find the proof to save them.
REVIEW:
IF you’ve kept up with these three series, you’ll know these packs have went through absolute h***. If it’s not one thing, it’s something else. It started with a half human/wolf hybrid that ended up mated to the pack alpha and up to now has ended with packs breaking apart, illnesses spreading, and so so much more. It’s had broken hearts, broken lives, and things they wonder if they will recover from. But through it all, doubts and all, they’ve tried to survive and do what’s best for the pack. But the heat has been turned up high in this one, and we don’t know how and if they can recover from what’s going on.
Without giving too much away, I’m trying not to. River’s new pack is starting to flourish, to a point. But now illnesses have cropped up in his pack, omegas are being kidnapped, and there’s more going on under the Congress’s nose than they originally thought. To the point, they’ve had to have help going undercover. It’s been one thing after another in this book, to the point River is really, really questioning everything and everyone. Even his own mate. As much as they love each other, there’s an issue that both feel guilty over but Josiah can’t get past. And with what’s going on with the human factions against the werewolves, things are really being questioned. How will they deal with it all? Because with the turn of events that have happened, it’s not a pretty picture and having to rely on a human is more than eating at all of them.
I feel so much for everyone in this one. Again, it comes in many different perspectives and I love it, because I love seeing how everyone feels. Pack is family yes, but every family has disagreements or things that can cause issues among them. And River is pushed to his brink. To the point he’s admitted to David, he resents Josiah. And he loves his mate more than life itself. But that’s how bad things have gotten. It’s too much for all of them. The tensions are so high. The humans are doing things so deplorable. And everyone is to the point of wanting to just give up and call it a day. It’s too much. Even as a half human, Josiah is about done with Congress and the creepiness of some of the people who belong. So this is a hard one. And it’s not getting better. I feel for River I think the most in this one, because he has a duty to his pack, but even then sometimes, he feels like he needs to listen to everyone’s opinions before acting. Which really sets some of the pack on edge. But River has to do it. He has to have a somewhat level head because he is in charge and things need to be done for the best of the pack. Even when his pack is in severe trouble. And that’s a hard position to be in. So I don’t envy what this pack is going through.
I’m curious to see how this ends, though, for sure. With all that’s going on in this book, and the way it was left off, I want to see how they are going to get through it all. I kind of have a small feeling but I could be way off so who knows. I’m just ready to dive in and see.
