After the defeat of the Lowland Army at Torsere and with King Seran on the run, King Ryneq and his sister, Cerylea, continue their journey to the Elven City of Alel to proceed with the union of the two realms. Fully recovered from his injuries and newly announced as King Ryneq’s Consort, Nykin returns to his duty as a Dragon Rider in the King’s army. He and Ryneq have little opportunity to celebrate their union, but make the most of their time together before leaving for Alel. Since the ambush at Neest River destroyed the main bridge, traveling by ship is the only option. An unusual storm threatens their crossing, making Ryneq wonder if some new magic is rising against them.
As the wedding between Cerylea and the Elven prince Morkryn approaches, the dragons sense a malevolent presence. To protect the young couple’s fragile bond, Nykin and his dragon, Fimor, take to the skies, setting up a patrol along the border of the magical city. But as the evil grows more potent, the enchanted boundary grows weaker. Ryneq and Nykin must combine their strength to protect their people from Seran’s extreme plot for revenge.
REVIEW:
I am really enjoying this series. I knew at the end of the last book, that something was going to happen in this one. Someone had disappeared in the battle and I knew that they were going to pop back up at some point. And I was right. And it’s made for a great story. I have a little contention for one particular elf, who is a little more than naughty at times, but they can be mischievous at times. Doesn’t excuse the behavior, but I definitely understand Ryneq’s unease.
Nykin has been dreading getting better to a point. He can’t wait to get back on Fimor and be with him, and it’s affecting Fimor as well. And he loves what little time he gets with Ryneq, but he knows once he’s officially ok, Cerylea, Ryneq’s sister and Princess, is going to be pushing the Consort ceremony. And he’s very nervous about it. He’s not used to being in the limelight. And he knows his whole world is about to change. But he can’t put it off any longer or he’s afraid Ryneq will think he doesn’t want him. Plus once their ceremony is done, the quicker Cerylea can get to Alel, the elves home, and get married. But they’re also all nervous because Seran disappeared during the battle in book 1 and they know he’s going to come back. Just a matter of when. And what he plans to do is anyone’s guess. But once they get to Alel and finally settled, have the wedding and etc, all bets are off. Seran indeed shows up and it’s up to Nykin and Fimor to with the help of the elves to fix what he’s trying to do. And hopefully in time. Because Seran has another plan up his sleeve and it’s just given everyone a shock.
I really am loving how everyone is working together. It was a good choice for Cerylea to marry into the elves because the forces they are going to have once the bond sets in, will be unstoppable. But Seran knows more than he’s let on. But even with the hurt he’s put on some of the elves, with the old magic he has floating around trying to hurt and stir things up, Seran has forgotten one thing. And I can’t wait to see how it turns out in book 3. Nykin and Fimor have shown quickly how well they work together and how strong their bond is. They’ve shown how much trust they have in each other and because of it, they are going to become unstoppable. I can very much see that happening. And with Ryneq already having a somewhat bond with the dragons, Fimor knows well what Ryneq needs as well and things are going to be better I think. The bonds all around them are forming strong. In their own ways, and it’s going to make Torsere unbeatable, I believe. I may be wrong but I’ve loved watching how this has all turned out and how they’ve all just kept getting up and fighting. And because of Fimor, even more has turned out better. I love him so much. He’s one heck of a dragon. Sass, smart as a whip, with a wicked sense of humor.
If you haven’t read this series, you need to. It’s really an amazing series so far and I can’t wait to see where it goes next.
