I’ve had my fair share of less than proud relationship moments, but waking up married to my brother-in-law’s best friend is a new low.
A drunken wedding to a man who already rejected me once? Check. A hefty bet about how long it will last? Check. My feisty new husband, determined to make our friends pay up? Double check.
I’ve never managed to make a real relationship last nearly a year, there’s no way Daniel will stick around long enough to win this bet. The only problem is the longer he stays, the more the lines blur between what’s real and what’s for show. Does he feel it too or am I totally screwed?
REVIEW:
This is the fourth book in the Four Bears Construction series. It is about four best friends who set up their own construction business and is very successful. This instalment will be about Ollie, who I think is the most romantic of the four best friends. Ollie has been looking for that special someone and while all three of his best friends have found theirs, he hasn’t been so lucky! Meanwhile, he has had three short-lived unsuccessful marriages plus other relationships and still no “the one.” He realized that maybe he is not meant to be with someone in that way.
When his last boyfriend was exposed for flirting/touching his brother’s boyfriend and proposing his brother’s boyfriend’s best friend for a blowjob, it was a big blow to his flagging self-confidence. After which, when said best friend, Daniel, tried to make up to Ollie for what happened with his boyfriend, things became overly hot that resulted to a blowjob in the parking lot. When Ollie asked to take Daniel out, Daniel told him that it is not a good idea because Ollie doesn’t do casual, and Daniel doesn’t do serious. This was the final straw for Ollie, he stopped dating.
And now they are all off to Las Vegas and then Hawaii for Cole and Ren’s wedding. The whole gang is flying together. As best men for both grooms, Daniel and Ollie have to plan together with Cole and Ren although they have not been seeing to it personally, just through emails and texts. But now that the actual event is about to happen and as the only two single guys (with no dates) in the entourage, things can’t be help that when there was a shortage in rooms, the two single men have no choice but to be roomed together.
But what happens when these two lovelies wake up after a night of drinking and realized that they have been hitched the night before? Add to that the fact that Daniel took a video of the whole thing and sent it to Ren. When they realized what they have to face, and confronted with (painful) jokes of another doomed marriage for Ollie, Daniel couldn’t help but come to Ollie’s rescue and make a bet with their friends that their marriage will last eight months, which is a month longer than the longest marriage/relationship Ollie has had. Ollie and Daniel also agreed between them that sex will only happen in Hawaii, it stops when they get back to the US.
And then Daniel loses his job, but instead of calling Ren like he normally does, he called Ollie. Ollie came up with a solution to Daniel’s dilemma. Daniel can move in with him. In hindsight, it will make their marriage more believable. So move in they did. So what do you think happens when you are living in one roof with your “fake” husband? Ollie knows that Daniel has been hurt deeply before, just like he has been with all his failed relationships, although Daniel still has to tell him about that.
As I said earlier, Ollie is the most romantic of all four friends. He keeps looking for his “the one.” He kept looking, thus the failed marriages/relationships. But when his last boyfriend cheated, it sort of made him feel disillusioned, discouraged. A story full of vulnerability (from both MCs), hopelessness, settling for what they can control, and eventually, the willingness to try again, to risk one’s heart again for someone who can be “the one!” When you have been hurt over and over again, you tend to put up walls and start protecting your heart. A story of family and all the havoc they can cause to you, done with so much love and care. This series has been an amazing journey of strong Alpha men who can be vulnerable and so so lovable. Thank you Ms. Neuhold for bringing them to life!
